Samsung Galaxy Note2 Maxis DiGi Celcom Malaysia

UPDATE: Included Galaxy Note II bundling on Maxis new SurfMore Plan with 12/24 months contract.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II officially goes on sale in Malaysia today with the big 3 telcos – DiGi, Celcom and Maxis offering contract bundle plans for the device. Retailing at RM2,299, the 5.5″ Android phone-tablet with quad-core 1.6GHz processor is also available without contract at Samsung Elite Partners and there’s also a roadshow happening at MidValley from today until Sunday.

For most people, getting outright can be blow to your wallet. If you’re already using or thinking of getting a postpaid plan with data, having a contracted plan with a telco makes more sense with subsidised Galaxy Note II pricing. We have compared the plans and pricing from all 3 telcos in Malaysia to find out the total minimum cost of owning a Galaxy Note II.

Head after the break for the full comparison.

First of all, the comparison made is based on the minimum cost of ownership possible. This is assuming you don’t exceed the minimum monthly commitment or incur access charges. In real life scenario, this might vary especially for DiGi’s Smart Plan where you’re only paying for data, while calls and SMS are charged separately. For Maxis, Value Postpaid plan bundling, we have taken the lowest Value Plus plan which is RM30/month for comparison sake.

In terms of contract duration, all 3 telcos offer 12 months contract while only Maxis and DiGi offer the longest 24 months option. Celcom in the other hand has a middle ground option of 18 months, which is their longest contract duration available. Click on the tables below for larger size.

12 Months

18 Months

24 Months

For DiGi, there’s extra monthly rebate savings for those that opt for auto-billing but we have omitted it as not all might choose this payment option. On Maxis, it is worth pointing out that Maxis One Club members will get to enjoy free advance payment waiver for all TalkMore 78 and Value Postpaid plans.

When deciding which plan is for you, the minimum ownership cost is just for a baseline reference. You would need to think about your current call, SMS and data usage pattern to find out which plan is suited for your need. There’s also network coverage and service quality to consider as well. Since you’re committing to a contract, it is best to stay with a telco that has optimal service at your area as cancelling a contract halfway would attract unnecessary penalty charges.

Maxis introduces ONEplan with “limitless” calls and SMS

140530-maxis-ONEplan-postpaid-limitless-voice-sms

UPDATE: Maxis ONEplan™ is now called as MaxisONE™ plan.

Maxis today unveiled its new postpaid offering called the OnePlan, a plan that was created based on what Maxis believe it’s customers wanted — a lot of voice and text with very little data to deliver what Maxis feels is a “worry free experience with competitive pricing and worry-free surfing”.

According to Maxis, an average Maxis subscriber uses around 1GB of data a month. In addition to that Maxis claims its average user makes more calls and SMS than they think they do. To deliver a “worry free experience without monthly bill surprises”, the ONEplan offers what Maxis say are “limitless” voice calls and SMS for a fixed monthly fee which also comes with bundled mobile data.

By Maxis’ terms “limitless” is 3,000 minutes of calls and 3,000 text messages a month.

UPDATE: Maxis has removed its 3,000 minutes/3000 SMS cap to offer true limitless calls and SMS. Details here.

140530-maxis-one-plan-postpaid-2014

Despite its ONEplan naming, there are actually 2 plans on offer:

ONEplan – RM128/month

Limitless Talk – to all networks
Limitless SMS – to all networks
4G LTE Data – 2GB

ONEplan Lite – RM78/month

Limitless Talk – Maxis to Maxis only. 15sen/minute to other networks
Limitless SMS – Maxis to Maxis only. 10sen/SMS to other networks
4G LTE Data – 1GB

Typical with most mobile plans in Malaysia, once your data quota is used up, there will not be any excess charge but speeds will be throttled down. There’s an option to add more data at RM30 per GB per month. For example, if you want to add 2GB a month on top of the existing data offered by the OnePlan, you will have to pay a hefty RM60 on top of the monthly subscription fee. For 3GB extra, you’ll have to top up RM90 and so on. Where other operators reduce the cost per GB with more data you subscribe to the linear rate that Maxis is charging for additional data with its OnePlan is unconventional and expensive.

Alternatively if you’ve burst your quota and just need a small data top up so that you’re speed is not throttled down, you can purchase a one time booster at 200MB for RM10, 500MB for RM20 and 1GB at RM30, which by industry standards, is still expensive.

With data usage rising as more and more people switch from feature phones to smartphones, the ONEplan offers very little for those who prioritise data over voice calls and SMS. Maxis reckons that 2GB is more than enough for the average user and they claimed that most people hardly utilise their data quota on a monthly basis. The problem with that is at RM128 for 2GB per month and an additional RM30 for every 1GB of data, the average user will be better off sticking to their current SurfMore plans or simply subscribe from another operator. U Mobile for example offers 3GB of data for RM80/monthly inclusive of unlimited calls within U mobile + 200 minutes calls to all networks and 100 SMS (50 within U Mobile + 50 to other networks) on its Unlimited 80 plan.

The ONEplan is better suited for those who make lots of phone calls on a daily basis and we mean A LOT, at least over 200 minutes a month. We were told that this would replace the TalkMore 78 plan which offers 600 minutes of voice calls and 500 SMS per month. If you need internet, you would need to bolt on data at RM48 for 1GB or RM68 for 3GB, which brings it up to a total of RM126/month and RM146/month respectively. If you fit in Maxis average profile of using less than 2GB a month, this would suit you well if you do make more than 600 minutes of phone calls per month. For light users, Maxis has shared that about 75% of calls are made within their network hence the ONEplan Lite at RM78/month would be an affordable proposition but you need to take note that calls and SMS to non-Maxis numbers will be charged separately.

To find out if this is for you, we suggest that you study your bill breakdown to understand your usage patterns. Overall, the ONEplan looks like a reboot of their previous Value Plus Internet but comes with more calls and data. Back then, there was even the option to add 6GB data for just RM98/month.

For those who need data with occasional calls and SMS, the SurfMore 50 plan with 2GB a month at RM50/month is a better bargain or you can opt for its SurfMore 75 with 5GB at RM75/month which calculates to just RM15/GB. If you make more calls than expected, you can top up RM12 for 120 minutes of calls to any network or RM6 for 120 SMS with their More Voice and More SMS add-on. Adding data is more affordable too as the SurfMore quota upgrade charges just RM10 for 500MB, RM15 for 1GB and RM50 for 5GB. That’s at least half of what ONEplan is charging for its data top up. Got more devices that need internet? You can add RM15/month for extra SIM cards to share your existing data quota on your tablet or MiFi.

We’re not convinced with the ONEplan. Data usage is set to rise and with the expansion of 4G LTE coverage, more users will be able to consume more digital content especially videos. Is free calls and text more important to you than data? What would give you better value, more data or more calls? Of course this varies from user to user but at the end of the day, we all want the best value for our money and this new plan from Maxis struggles to offer that.

Interestingly, P1 has a plan offering that carries the same name, what is even more interesting is that P1 has trademarked the name OnePlan.

SingTel’s new Easy Mobile Plan lets you design your own postpaid plan

140616-singtel-easy-mobile-tweak

Every mobile user is different with those who like talk a lot while there are others who just need mobile data. As telcos try to create a single plan to cater for the average users, they are often expensive or skewed towards particular a type of usage pattern.

To give greater flexibility, operator SingTel from our southern neighbour has introduced Easy Mobile which lets you customised your postpaid plan to suit your lifestyle. It allows you to tweak your plan either for more calls, text or even data usage on a monthly basis. Read on to find out more.

140616-singtel-easy-mobile-units

The basis of such plan is the number of units where each unit is valued at either 50 minutes of voice calls, 500 SMS/MMS or 0.5GB (512MB) of mobile internet. Then you can subscribe to a plan option according to your mobile appetite as follows:

Small – 4 units – $33/month
Medium – 10 units – $45/month
Large – 16 units – $65/month
Xtra Large – 26 units – $105/month

The only catch is that you would need to have at least 1 unit for each category of call, text and data. So for those who use a lot of data and occasional phone calls would not be able to opt out of SMS completely. Taking the Small option subscriber as an example, you can set 50 minutes of voice (1 unit), 500 SMS (1 unit) and 1GB of data (2 units). Where as for Medium, you can rake up the full units for data up to 4GB (8 units) with 50 voice calls (1 unit) and 500 SMS (1 unit). If the following month you find yourself making more calls and use lesser data than expected, you can adjust the units to cater for your usage change. The adjustment of units can be done through their easymobile.sg website or via its mobile app.

The idea of giving flexibility to users is quite good. however tweaking it requires a better understanding of your phone bill. If this is implemented in Malaysia, the value of each units should be competitive with what’s currently being offered by talk and data centric plans. An existing postpaid plan with bundled mobile data without phone calls and SMS like Maxis SurfMore might be cheaper (cost per GB) compared to a flexi plan. Would you go for such a plan if it was introduced by our local telcos? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Maxis revises Fair Use Policy on MaxisONE Plan. Now with true unlimited calls and SMS

$

140707-maxisone-plan-true-unlimited

The MaxisOne Plan is specially designed for those who talk and SMS a lot as it offers limitless calls and SMS for a worry free experience. When it was announced, the plan had a Fair Use Policy which caps usage to 3,000 call minutes and 3,000 SMS per month.

If you talk for more than 50 hours a month and if you find such Fair Use policy being a hurdle, Maxis has finally removed its monthly caps on both MaxisOne and MaxisOne Lite postpaid plans. So now you can call all day and all night for 30 days a month without worrying about hitting the limit. According to its T&C, the limitless voice calls and SMS applies to all numbers excluding video calls, calls to special numbers, 1-300 or 1-800 numbers and 121. Maxis also reserves the right to disconnect or suspend if they suspect fraud or unusual habits with your account. For those on the lower MaxisOne Plan lite, the limitless usage is applicable to Maxis to Maxis numbers only.

To recap on the plans, the MaxisOne Plan of RM128/month gives you limitless talk and SMS to any number in Malaysia and it comes with 2GB of mobile data. If most of your contacts are on Maxis, there’s a cheaper alternative with the MaxisOne Plan Lite at RM78 which offers limitless talk within Maxis Network. it also comes with mobile internet of 1GB. For those who consume data a lot, the MaxisOne plan is quite costly to top up as it charges RM30/month for each additional GB required.

You can get more details in our MaxisOne Plan post or visit their website over here.

Celcom introduces First One Plan. Claims this is the right ONE for you with more internet

140709-celcom-first-one-plan

UPDATE: Celcom has updated its FAQ.

Recently Maxis has gotten quite an attention with its new MaxisOne Plan that offers limitless talk and SMS for a fixed monthly fee. The proposition of a worry-free usage without the need of checking phone bills is quite interesting but the only complaint is its low monthly internet quota and costly data upgrades.

Today Celcom has announced its First One Plan which claims to be the right plan for you with a generous serving of mobile internet. They have also cheekily imply that an internet plan with very little internet, is the wrong one for you. It is pretty obvious that Celcom is taking a jab at the MaxisOne Plan. If you’re not convinced, it is even mentioned under its FAQ that the campaign is to counter attack the new data plan that Maxis has recently launched.

140709-celcom-first-one-plan-comparison-resized

Like its rival, the Celcom First One Plan comes in 2 choices. The 3GB plan costs RM68/month while its 5GB option is offered at RM88/month. For occasional conversations, both plans come bundled with 60 minutes of calls and 60 SMS per month. Additional usage is on the high side at 20 sen/min for calls and 20 sen per SMS for First One Plan 3GB while its 5GB plan is slightly cheaper at 15 sen/minute of calls and per SMS.

For those relying on internet excessively, topping up additional internet quota is quite reasonable as well at RM15 per GB or RM50 for 5GB. If the plan offering looks familiar, they are actually renamed from its former Celcom First mAdvance Plus and Celcom First mPro Plus. As an added bonus, all new subscriptions will get 2 KAX collectibles and 100 Free movies on its Escape service.

So is this truly better than MaxisOne? The reality is that there’s no single plan that would suit everyone. If you make a lot of calls and SMS on a daily basis, the MaxisOne Plan is still an affordable proposition especially if you rake more than RM100 a month on calls and SMS. For those who use a lot of data and hardly make much phone calls, the Celcom First One is a good alternative. If you’re looking for an even more affordable data-centric postpaid plan, the Maxis SurfMore 50 is worth considering with 2GB of monthly data at just RM50/month. And if you need more, their SurfMore 75 offers 5GB of data for just RM75/month.

141015-maxisone-plan-internet-quota-topup

The MaxisONE Plan is ideal for people who talk and text a lot thanks to its unlimited voice calls and SMS proposition. It may be great for sales people or love birds, but internet centric users may find 1GB (MaxisONE Plan Lite) / 2GB (MaxisONE Plan) monthly quotas to be quite little. If you need more internet for your mobile usage, Maxis charges RM30 per GB which is quite a high price to pay.

For those who need more than 3GB a month, Maxis now offers a new data add-on which brings the extra cost per GB below RM20/month. You can now top up 3GB for RM58 or 6GB at RM116 which is equivalent to RM19.30 per GB.

141015-maxisone-plan-rates

To subscribe, you’ll need to activate over Maxis Hotline by dialling 123 or alternatively you can walk-in to any Maxis centres. If you don’t need additional 3GB, the standard top up options such as 200MB for RM10, 500MB for RM20 and 1GB for RM30 applies.

If the extra internet is too much for your smart phone, you can share it across additional devices at RM15/month for an extra data only SIM. This is practical for owners of 3G enabled tablets.

Recapping the plan offering, the MaxisOne Plan Lite offers unlimited calls and SMS within Maxis network for RM78/month and it comes with 1GB as standard. For the ultimate limitless call experience, the MaxisOne Plan at RM128/month covers all numbers including fixed lines and that includes 2GB of internet each month.

150119-dont-bodoh-telco-plan-comparison

Do you know if you’re current mobile provider is screwing you over? Don’t Bodoh is a new website that aims to educate Malaysians of their current mobile plan and compares them with other options from other competitors.

We’re not sure who’s behind it but it claims to be presented by an independent entity. A quick check on its domain name whois info reveals Cenxus Multimedia (presumably the web developer) as the domain owner but that’s usually the way to conceal the actual person behind the scene.

To use the comparison is pretty simple, just enter your average monthly spends, select which provider you’re with in either postpaid or prepaid and then select the plan you’re on. It will then find other similar plans from other telcos along with a rating if it is a good plan or not.

We tried it several times and found that the site has its own shortcomings. The list of postpaid plans isn’t extensive as we hoped for and it left out some notable ones like Maxis Talkmore, Celcom First One and its former Celcom First plans which are being subscribed to by existing users. Another issue is that it is limited to the big 4 telcos such as DiGi, Maxis, Celcom and U Mobile, leaving out MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) such as RedONE, TuneTalk and etc.

Nevertheless it is still a commendable effort and hopefully they can tweak it further to cover more plans. You can check it out yourself at DontBodoh.com.

Maxis to stop offering its SurfMore 75 postpaid plan

150124-maxis-surfmore-75-is-no-more

With the increased usage of instant messaging, there’s little need of making phone calls and SMS these days. Therefore it makes more sense to subscribe to data centric plans that comes with more data and you’ll only pay for voice calls and SMS only when required. It looks like the days of cheap data is slowly coming to an end. After enforcing a fixed quota onto its legacy unlimited data plan, Maxis is now cutting off what appears to be the most affordable data-centric 4G enabled postpaid plan in the market.

Effective 29th January 2015, Maxis will no longer offer its SurfMore 75 plan which gives 5GB of data for just RM75 a month. What’s left is its SurfMore 50 which gives you 2GB at RM50/month. If you’re interested, you have a few days left to subscribe to this plan. You can do so through its online store or you can make a switch by calling them at 123 for current Maxis customers.

For existing SurfMore 75 customers, you may still continue to enjoy the existing plan offering. Take note that if you decide to switch to other plans, there’s no turning back.

Another change is the removal of its More Voice add-on where you can top up RM12 for an extra bundle of 120 minutes of voice calls (10sen/minute). It’s More SMS add-on however is still retained with 120 SMS offered at RM6/month.

Probably the biggest blow is the cost of topping up extra data. Previously Maxis’s SurfMore quota upgrade charges just RM10 for 500MB, RM15 for 1GB and RM50 for 5GB. Effective 29th January, the cost of extra quota will be increased dramatically to RM25 for 500MB and RM35 for 1GB. As a introductory promo, they are offering free data quota for the first 3 months, offering 500MB + Free 1GB at RM25 and 1GB + Free 2GB at RM35. Overall, data is getting more expensive and Maxis appears to be trying hard to entice its subscribers to switch to its MaxisOne Plan.

For more information, head over to Maxis SurfMore page or visit their SurfMore 75 FAQ page.

U Mobile wants to be the best telco offering the iPhone 6

150313-umobile-iphone-6-plan-offering-hero

If you’re planning to buy an iPhone 6 in Malaysia, most likely you’ve been disappointed by the recent price increase. U Mobile, the 4th telco to offer the iPhone 6 on contract wants you to know that all is not doom and gloom.

With its ongoing registration of interest, U Mobile has revealed more details of its offering which are one of a kind in Malaysia. For starters, they would be offering the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at previous lower prices, while stocks last.

While they have yet to reveal their plan details, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus from U Mobile claims to come with True Unlimited High-Speed data. Apparently this isn’t the so called unlimited usage with free throttled speeds but an actual bottomless internet with no limit for high-speed access. This we think is likely applicable with their new highest commitment plan.

For postpaid subscribers, U Mobile says there won’t be any lock-in contracts and you’re free to leave the network without excessive penalty charges. The reality is that this is likely the case if they convert their phone subsidy into monthly rebates where you can enjoy fully only if you stay with the throughout the period. For those who prefer the flexibility and control of prepaid, U Mobile too will be offering subsidised iPhones as well.

In addition, U Mobile would also offer an easy payment scheme from a micro credit facility. Get ready to pay additional interest charge over monthly installments and U Mobile mentions that application would take up to 2 hours for approval. The full details will be revealed next week on 17th March and it is likely that U Mobile wills start offering the iPhone around the same time.

Digi’s new postpaid plans have gotten smarter for 2015

150318-digi-2015-smartplan

Digi was the first telco in Malaysia to introduce an internet centric postpaid offering with its Smart Plan in 2010. You pay only for data, while calls and SMS are charged only when you need them. It was the ideal option for those wanting just the Internet and very little of everything else.

Then two years back, Digi got a little creative by bundling extra phone calls, SMS and that’s not all. They even split your internet quota for “Smart Apps” which is used specifically for social and instant messaging and the remaining for other uses such as web browsing, YouTube and tethering. That wasn’t too smart especially when the competition had caught on and offered more simplified data-only options such as Maxis SurfMore and Celcom First Data plans.

After its recent rebranding, Digi has brought its smart plan back from the drawing board with a refreshed new offering. Now things are starting to look a lot “smarter” than before which could please the two different types of users.

For 2015, the new Smart Plans retain the same monthly commitments of RM50, RM78, RM108 and RM148. What’s changed is the bundled offering which you can choose between High Data and High Voice. Speaking of data, they have finally do away with the ridiculous quota split so you can now utilise your quota freely without restrictions. If you’re looking for an affordable plan, the lowest Smart Plan RM50 gives you either 2GB of data + 100 minute voice + 100 SMS or 250MB data + 400 minutes voice + 400 SMS.

As you commit for its higher plans like Smart Plan 78, 108 and 148, you get to enjoy additional value such as unlimited WhatsApp+WeChat instant messaging and Free Music Freedom subscription that lets you stream or download music without utilising your data quota. For its higher Smart Plan 108 and 148 plans, they are also throwing in free unlimited Facebook usage but take note it is applicable for specific High Data/High Voice options only.

At the surface, it looks good that Digi is offering flexibility of its bundling to cater for voice or data centric users but it isn’t as dynamic as Celcom’s new FIRST postpaid plan that self-optimises according to usage. On the other hand, its Smart Plan 108 and 148 also gives you unlimited local voice calls and SMS if you opt for High Voice. This can be seen a direct competition to MaxisOne Plan and you get slightly more data quota as well.

If you’re an existing Digi Smart Plan subscriber, this is something worth switching to especially when data is more important. For more information, visit Digi’s new Smart Plan page.

MaxisONE Plan Start: Unlimited Calls within Maxis for RM58

Just want to make unlimited calls without spending too much? The MaxisOne postpaid offering now gets a cheaper MaxisONE Plan Start option for RM58/month. This sits right underneath its current MaxisOne Plan Lite of RM78/month and you’ll get unlimited calls and SMS to all Maxis/Hotlink numbers.

150323-maxisone-plan-start

The biggest difference with the RM78/month MaxisOne Plan Lite is the bundled mobile internet. For RM20 less, the MaxisOne Plan Start gets just 100MB of internet instead of 1GB. As part of its worry free proposition, there’s no extra charge once you’ve utilised your 100MB quota. As usual, your download speeds will be throttled until the next billing cycle or if you top up with additional quota.

You do get the option to top up RM30 for 1GB, RM58 for 3GB or RM116 for 6GB. For a one time heavy usage, there are booster packs that offer 200MB at RM10 and 500MB at RM20, which are costly in the long run.

Calls and SMS to non-Maxis numbers are not included and you’ll be charged separately at RM0.15/minute for calls and RM0.10 per SMS. If you make lots of calls with at least 1GB of internet a month, you’re better off with its MaxisONE Plan Lite. This is probably more suitable to those who just need line for calling and texting without the need for data. For a full buffet of unlimited calls, the higher MaxisOne Plan of RM128/month offers unlimited calls to all numbers (within Malaysia, of course) with bundled 2GB of data.

5 Ways Maxis Protects you from Bill Shocks

This post is brought to you by Maxis – Experience the Difference.

Having a postpaid plan gives you the ultimate freedom to use. There’s no credits to top up and you would only need to pay at the end of your monthly bill cycle. However that also opens up a possibility of bill shocks for something which you thought you never use. By now you’ve probably heard stories of people raking up bills of thousands of ringgit due to accidental data usage or simply for roaming on the wrong network.

Operator Maxis wants to change the way people look at Postpaid especially where there’s a stigma that the operators are all out to get you. Recently they made some drastic changes from the way they charge for calls and data as well as making internet usage overseas cheaper and worry free.

Is it just lip service or have they actually made a difference? Read on to find out.

#1 No More Expensive Pay As You Go Data

150409-maxis-zero-bill-shocks-promise-02

For those using the old classic postpaid plans, most customers would have switched to a brand new smart phone but still hasn’t gotten a dedicated data plan. Usually by default, Mobile Data is switched on and telcos would usually charge a rather expensive Pay As You Go rate of 10 sen per 10KB. That’s RM10 per MB and can you imagine how much would it cost if you watched a couple of YouTube videos?

Since last year, they have gotten rid of its old Pay As You Go Rates with a more simplified mechanism. For every 50MB you use, Maxis charges just RM10 for each block. So if you use 80MB, you’re charged only RM20 (2 x 50MB blocks). The best part is that Maxis caps your usage to 250MB at RM50/month so you won’t be charged beyond that. Of course, your speeds would be throttled down but you can always subscribe to a data plan to regain your speed.

Also if you accidentally enabled Mobile Data, Maxis will not charge if you don’t use beyond 250KB in a single month. This is just another safety net for those who just want to stick to WiFi for their smart phone internet needs.

#2 Constant Reminders on your Data Usage

150409-maxis-zero-bill-shocks-promise-03

When using mobile data on Maxis, they will constantly remind you especially if you don’t have a plan. If you’re using a data-less plan like Maxis TalkMore, you’ll receive a message that you’re on their Mobile Internet Plan of RM10 per 50MB.

Once you’ve started using, they will keep reminding you each time you utilised a block of 50MB along with a quick update of your usage. In our test, we got a total of 7 SMS from start until hitting 250MB, so you definitely can’t miss it. Each SMS also comes with a tip that you would save more if you subscribe to a data plan by dialling *100#. You can top up from as little as RM2/day for 100MB to RM48/month for 1GB.

#3 Check and Manage Data Quota in Real Time

150409-maxis-zero-bill-shocks-promise-04

Want to know how much you’ve used before your bill arrives? With the newly revamped MyMaxis App, you can always check your unbilled amount and remaining data quota in real time. If need to use a lot of data at one go especially when you use your smart phone as a WiFi hotspot, you can always top up RM2 for 100MB or RM5 for 500MB from the app. Alternatively you can do this by dialing *100#.

#4 Use Internet Overseas with No Worries

150409-maxis-zero-bill-shocks-promise-05

When making a trip overseas, staying in touch has never been easier. Upon arrival at a new country, you are likely to be bombarded with SMS, telling you the best network operator to roam. Switching networks manually can be a hassle and there are cases where your smart phone would jump to a different network, which could result a very expensive roaming bill. Fortunately Maxis has gotten rid of such complications and they would guarantee that you will always be connected to the right network.

150409-maxis-zero-bill-shocks-promise-06

For a worry free travel, Maxis offers Unlimited Data Roam (Fair Usage Applies) for only RM38/day at over 106 countries. If you want something more affordable for basic Instant Messaging, there’s a cheaper DataRoam Saver at 15 countries for only RM10/day. While DataRoam saver comes with just 50MB high speed quota per day, there’s no extra charge once you’ve exceeded. To activate, just dial *100# upon arrival before enabling Data Roaming on your smart phone.

150409-maxis-zero-bill-shocks-promise-07

Another good reason to roam on Maxis is that you can overcome the Great Firewall in China. So instead of getting a local SIM where you’re unlikely to access Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, you still can share your moments without restrictions on Maxis. This is possible since it reroutes your internet traffic through Malaysia.

Oh by the way, for MaxisOne Plan customers (MaxisOne Plan/One Plan Lite/Business One Plan/Business One Plan Lite), Maxis is giving free calls while roaming at selected countries. This is applicable from now until 30th April.

#5 All you can call and SMS for one flat free

150409-maxis-zero-bill-shocks-promise-08

For the ultimate Worry Free experience, why not give MaxisOne Plan a try? For a flat RM128/month, the MaxisOne Plan offers unlimited domestic calls and SMS and 2GB of mobile internet. If you exceed your internet quota, there’s no extra charge and this means there’s no way for you to exceed RM128/month. The only way to incur more charges is if you make the following:

Video Calls
Top Up Data Quota
IDD/Premium Number Calls
Premium SMS
Data Roaming
Voice Mail
Roaming Calls/SMS
1MOCC Calls

For a more affordable alternatives, there’s also MaxisOne Plan Lite at RM78/month and MaxisOne Plan Start at RM58/month. Both offers unlimited calls and SMS but only within the Maxis/Hotlink network. For internet, they come with 1GB and 100MB respectively each month.

Can you really get Zero Bill Shocks?

The 5 claims mentioned here are part of Maxis 0 bill shock promise. Like most products in the market, you probably wonder if there’s any catch or hidden conditions. The word “unlimited” has been overused and there’s always a tingling sensation that there’s a hidden charge somewhere.

For the next few days, we will be rigorously testing out its Mobile Data worry free promise and we’ll find out if their MaxisOne Plan truly offers bottomless calls and SMS. Stay tuned for our findings.

MaxisOne Share: Supplementary Postpaid plan with unlimited calls, SMS and shared data for RM48/month

150430-maxisone-share-supplementary-line

The MaxisOne Plan offers unlimited calls and SMS with bundled 2GB data for a worry free experience. If the unlimited call proposition is too much for a single line, Maxis is now allowing you to take up additional supplementary lines with the MaxisOne Share Plan. For RM48/month, the extra mobile line can enjoy the same limitless talk and SMS, while mobile internet is shared from its main data quota.

150430-maxisone-share-plan

The MaxisOne Share plan is only applicable to MaxisOne Plan subscribers (RM128/month) that top up at least 1GB of data (RM30/GB) and this comes up to RM158/month. Like its original MaxisOne Plan, data is not going to be cheap. If you need more, they charge RM30 for every extra GB per month and you can add-on to maximum of 5GB extra. If you do the math, the RM30/GB rate is expensive and it would cost you RM150/month just to get additional 5GB.

Each MaxisOne Plan subscriber can get up to 5 supplementary lines but the MaxisOne Share is limited to just 2 per principal account. This means, if you have 5 supplementary lines in total, you could only get 2 MaxisOne Share plans and the remaining 3 would be signed with other plans (e.g. SurfMore 30, Value Plus Family or Value Plus Internet 30).

If talking and and sending messages are more important for your household, the MaxisOne Share could be an alternative to keep a chatty family happy. Assuming each person can survive with 1GB of internet per month, it will cost RM85/month per user for a postpaid plan that offers unlimited calls and SMS to anyone within Malaysia (except for Premium numbers).

For more information, visit their MaxisOne Share page.
