150616-digi-smartplan-RM36-plan

UPDATE: The RM36 Smart Plan promo with 3GB Data, 100min calls and 100 SMS is valid at Digi stores from now until 15th July. The promo subscription fee of RM36 is only valid for the first 12 months.

For those craving for more internet for the least amount of money, Celcom appears to have the best deal in town with its FIRST Basic 38 plan. You get 3GB of data, 50 minutes of calls and 50 SMS each month for just RM38. To top it off, you are even allowed to carry forward unused data to the following month.

Now Digi appears to have something up their sleeves which could offer more value at an even lower price. A reader had brought to our attention on a new unannounced RM36 Digi plan and the folks at MDroid.my have gotten more info on the new counter plan offering.

150616-digi-smartplan-50-3GB-promo

What could be a limited time promo in conjunction with its 20th Anniversary, Digi appears to have lowered its Smart Plan 50 fee from RM50 to just RM36/month. To make the deal sweeter for data-centric users, they have added an additional 1GB of data to its High Data option. So in total, you’ll get 3GB of data, 100 minutes of calls and 100 SMS, all for just RM36/month.

150616-digi-smartplan-78-4GB-promo

If you need more, their Smart Plan 78 (High Data) appears to be slashed from RM78 to just RM66/month. They’ve also added 1GB of extra data, giving it a total of 4GB of mobile internet plus 200 minutes of calls and 200 SMS per month. As per current offering, the SmartPlan 78 comes with unlimited instant messenging via WhatsApp and WeChat, and Zero data charges on music streaming with its Music Freedom offering.

So far there’s no official announcement from Digi and this could very well spark a price war which is good for us consumers. Will this prompt Maxis to engage on a affordable postpaid data offering?

Thanks @KevinNgTK for the heads up!

150624-digi-smartplan-50-78-promo-RM38-3GB-01

Just recently Digi had quietly introduced a special promo for its lower commitment Smart Plans, where you can get 3GB of data, 100 minutes of calls and 100 SMS each month for only RM36. Initially offered for a limited time at on-ground stores, Digi has published the offer on their website and you can now subscribe to the plan hassle free from their online store.

150624-digi-smartplan-50-78-promo-RM38-3GB-02

To recap, the new promo offer is basically an extra rebate on its current SmartPlan 50 and SmartPlan 78 High Data plans and they have thrown in additional 1GB for free. If the RM36 postpaid plan is not enough, you can consider its RM66/month offer with 4GB of data along with 200 minutes of calls and 200 SMS. This is seen as a counter-plan for Celcom’s RM38 First Basic 38 offering.

However do note that this is only applicable for the first 12 months, which consists of RM14/month discount for SmartPlan 50 and RM12/month off for SmartPlan 78. So far there’s no mention whether the extra 1GB offer would be extended after the 12 month promo period.

This promotion is only valid if you sign up from now until 15th July and it comes with no contracts. According to the T&C, it is applicable to new Digi subscribers including port-ins (MNP) and current users who are on Smart Plan 50 and Smart Plan 78.

For more info, head over to Digi’s Smart Plan 50/78 limited promo page.

Maxis doubles up SurfMore 50 quota to 4GB for 6 months

150701-maxis-surfmore-50-free-2GB-data-6months

Consumers are getting spoiled for choice when it comes to affordable data plans. We’ve seen Celcom, Digi and most recently U Mobile engaged in a price war where you can get a postpaid plan with 3GB of data for less than RM40/month. Meanwhile over at Maxis, the most affordable option is their SurfMore 50 plan which comes with 2GB of data at RM50/month.

To sweeten the deal, they are now doubling its data quota from 2GB to 4GB for 6 months. This is applicable for new subscribers that signed up from 25th June until 31st July 2015, and they are extending this to their current subscribers as well. If you’re currently on SurfMore 50, you should have received an SMS about this offer and they will allocate the extra data within 7 days.

While this is a good move, Maxis should really consider making its data plans more affordable. After the introduction of its MaxisOne plan, they have discontinued its SurfMore 75 plan (5GB for RM75) and topping up extra data is rather costly at RM35/GB on SurfMore or RM30/GB on MaxisOne Plan.

Then of course, there’s a concern of network quality which Maxis claims to have the best 4G network in the countries. While telcos can start throwing prices for their postpaid plans, the real challenge is whether they can maintain their network quality and bandwidth. Recently they have invested over RM1 billion to upgrade their network and from the looks of it, we don’t expect them to play the cheap data game anytime soon.

For more info, you can check out Maxis’ SurfMore page.

Maxis reduces price for its SurfMore data top up

Data doesn’t really come cheap on Maxis. After they discontinued its SurfMore 75 postpaid plan, topping up extra data could cost as high as RM35 for 1GB.

With the competition embarking on a price war, customers are getting spoilt for choice with a variety of postpaid plans offering as much as 3GB internet for under RM40. Paying RM25 for 500MB or RM35 for 1GB just doesn’t make any sense these days and Maxis has finally revised its quota top up pricing to more sensible levels.

150713-maxis-surfmore-RM15-GB-topup-2

If you need more data for your SurfMore 50/75 plan, Maxis is now charging just RM15 per 1GB extra. This is the same rate as before but they still omit its previous 5GB for RM50 top up option for heavy usage subscribers. Nevertheless, it is still significantly cheaper than what they have been charging recently.

As part of their Raya promotion, new and existing SurfMore 50 customers will be getting extra 2GB of data for 6 months starting from July until December 2015. This gives you a total of 4GB for just RM50/month. Not as cheap as the rest, but it is better than nothing.

Meanwhile, its current MaxisOne Plan that offers unlimited calls and SMS is still charging RM30 for 1GB. For heavy usage, they are offering 3GB at RM58 or 6GB at RM116, which comes up to RM19.33/GB.

MaxisGO offers 2GB data with bundled phone calls and SMS at RM48/month but there’s a catch

150728-maxis-go-postpaid-RM48

The mobile postpaid scene in Malaysia was shaken recently with affordable data plans from Digi, Celcom and U Mobile. In response to these affordable sub-RM40 plans, Maxis is now introducing its MaxisGO postpaid with 2GB of data at RM48/month. That’s not all as it also includes 100 minutes of calls and 100 SMS each month.

So is this better than its SurfMore 50 plan with 2GB/month? Wait until you read the fine lines.

150728-maxisgo-plan

For starters, the 2GB data quota is split into 2 buckets – 1GB which you can use for the whole day and another 1GB that’s restricted for off peak use between 2am – 7am. Strangely while you can sign up for the plan now, the off peak data is only available effective 30 July 2015. For the bundled 100 minutes calls and 100 SMS each month, it is applicable for all networks in Malaysia.

150728-maxis-go-postpaid-RM48-data-topup

Another difference is the top up cost of data should you need more than just 1GB (all day). An extra 500MB costs RM38 and 1GB costs RM48, which is the price of the full subscription fee itself. As comparison, Maxis charges just RM15 per GB on its SurfMore plans. So if data is more important to you, you’re better off with their current SurfMore 50 plan.

In summary, this is for the light data users who need more calls and SMS than the average data-centric user. If you’re on SurfMore 50 plan, this makes sense if you make quite a significant number of calls and you hardly use 1GB of data each month. In addition, there’s no additional charge should you exceed your data allocation and you’re also entitled to enjoy RM38/day roaming at their supported 106 countries. Celcom outs its FIRST One Plan promo for this Merdeka. 2GB of internet at RM48/month

150803-celcom-first-one-plan-RM48

Celcom its FIRST One postpaid plan for a limited time only in conjunction with the upcoming Merdeka celebrations. The plan is originally priced at RM68/month but they are giving RM20 off each month for life if you signed up by 31st August. The FIRST One offers 2GB of mobile data, 60 minutes of calls and 60 SMS to all networks for just RM48/month.

This apparently replaces its earlier First Basic 38 plan that offered 3GB of just RM38/month. Of the two, the earlier Basic 38 offers better value for less.

150803-celcom-first-one-plan-RM48-merdeka-plan

Should you exceed your monthly voice and SMS allocation, extra usage will be charged at RM0.20/minute or RM0.20 per SMS. For extra high-speed data, it offers the same data top-up rates as before with 1GB going for RM15 or 5GB at RM50/month.

When compared to the competition, it is still no match to U Mobile’s RM28/month for 3GB postpaid plan in terms of value. At least it is better than MaxisGo postpaid that offers 2GB of data which is split into off-peak and on-peak timeslots.

MaxisONE Plan now refreshed with more data than before

150820-maxis-one-plan-2015-more-data-up-to-8GB

The MaxisONE Plan promises peace of mind with its bundled internet, limit-less talk and SMS proposition. While the idea of not being charged extra for phone calls and SMS is good, many including us weren’t too fond of its paltry internet quota that came with it.

With internet becoming the core of smart phone usage, the folks of Maxis has finally updated its MaxisONE Plan offering with more data than before, and it hopes to be the “one” plan to suit everyone.

150820-maxis-one-plan-2015-offer

Similar to its previous offering, the MaxisONE Plan offers unlimited calls and SMS to any local numbers and should you exceed your allocated internet quota, there won’t be any excess charges but your speeds will be throttled down until you top up for more. If you use WhatsApp and Facebook, the new plan offers unlimited social chat usage and this will not consume your monthly data quota which utilises your quota but it is still usable after you’ve hit your quota limit.

For music lovers, streaming Spotify will be offered permanently for free and you can stream all you want without worrying about data quota and incurring streaming costs. On top of that, Spotify Premium is worth RM14.99 is bundled for free on the all new MaxisONE plans.

150820-maxis-one-plan-2015-table

Before this, there were 3 plans – MaxisONE Plan, MaxisONE Plan Lite and MaxisOne Start. The MaxisONE Plan at RM128/month was previously the only option that offers true unlimited calls to any network while the cheaper MaxisOne Lite and MaxisOne Start were limited only to numbers within the Maxis/Hotlink Network. To simplify things, all new MaxisONE Plans now offers unlimited calls and SMS to any local number across the board and the only difference is the bundled data that you’ll need. There are total of 4 plans available that are named after its monthly commitment fee – MaxisONE Plan 98, MaxisONE Plan 128, MaxisONE Plan 158 and MaxisONE Plan 188.

With that, the minimum option is now priced slightly higher at RM98/month and it comes with 1GB of data bundled in. The next option is the MaxisONE Plan 128 which comes with 3GB of data. This is an extra 1GB for the same price that was offered previously. If you need 3GB, it used to cost RM158/month with the RM30/month extra data add-on.

Have a bigger data appetite? There’s the MaxisONE Plan 158 with 5GB and MaxisONE Plan 188 at 7GB. Basically you’re paying RM15/GB extra for each step above the base MaxisONE Plan 98 plan. As a promo, those who subscribed for MaxisONE Plan 188 will get 1GB extra for 6 months, giving you a total of 8GB/month.

Should you need more data, it will cost you 200MB for RM10, 500MB for RM20 and 1GB for RM30. That’s still quite expensive and if you know your usage patterns well, it is better to opt for a higher MaxisONE Plan option in the long run.

For more info, head over to the MaxisONE Plan page.

U Mobile lets you call all you want with 7GB of data at just RM70/month

150901-u-mobile-hero-postpaid-unlimited-calls-7GB-data-malaysia

U Mobile has done it again. After revamping its postpaid offering with probably the most generous serving of data, they have upgraded its P70 plan that could please most chatterboxes. Dubbed as the U Mobile “Hero” postpaid plan, this is likely a response to MaxisONE plan that has been thumping on unlimited calls and SMS.

150901-u-mobile-hero-postpaid-plans

For just RM70/month, the P70 comes with unlimited free calls to all networks in Malaysia and on top of that, you still get the same 7GB of data which was upgraded from just 4.5GB previously. According to the FAQ, the upgraded unlimited calls and 7GB of data are offered on a permanent basis, so you can enjoy this until you switch plans or when you port out. For SMS, it is still chargeable but at a low 3 sen/SMS within U Mobile and 8 sen/SMS to other networks.

150901-u-mobile-hero-postpaid-plans-rate

Can’t finish 7GB in one account? You are able to share this with up to 2 more SIM Cards with its supplementary member line at RM10/month each. This is probably the best all you can eat postpaid offering right now unless you’re still into good old SMS. As comparison, the new MaxisONE plan starts from RM98/month and it offers unlimited calls and SMS but it comes with just 1GB of data. Additional data costs an incremental RM30 for every 2GB extra. If you’re an existing U Mobile P70 subscriber, the plan will be upgraded automatically and they won’t charge any fees to make the switch.

For clarity of its unlimited call usage, according to U Mobile’s fair use policy, this covers all domestic calls within Malaysia excluding those premium numbers (e.g. 1300/1500/103). They reserve to the right to suspend the line if it is being abused for call centre usage, sim boxing and keeping the line on for hours.

150930-iphone-6s-umobile-roi

If you’re planning to get the iPhone 6s on contract, you now have a fourth telco option in Malaysia. U Mobile which started to offer the iPhone 6 not too long ago has commenced its registration of interest for the latest iPhone duo.

Both iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be offered in either 16GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options with a choice of 4 colours including the new Rose Gold. In the registration form, you would need to select your preferred pick up point which is available in the Klang Valley, Johor Bahru, Kota Bahru, Melaka, Seremban, Kuantan, Penang, Ipoh, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. The official release for the iPhone 6s in Malaysia is on the 16th October and we can only assume that you could collect by then. Take note that by filling up the form, you’re not actually reserving a unit but you would be among the first to know when the device is available for purchase from U Mobile.

For those without a credit card, U Mobile is still offering its MicroCredit financing plan which currently lets you own the iPhone 6 from as low as RM98/month. This gives buyers the flexibility of owning the device without upfront payments and you can pay according to your preferred duration. However do note that MicroCredit does attract some interest which is charged anywhere between 0.84% to 1.20% depending on your financial rating.

Want to get the iPhone 6s from U Mobile? You can register your interest for more updates.

Digi introduces affordable Smart Plans with Unlimited Calls and SMS

151001-digi-smartplan-unlimited-calls-sms

Want to make unlimited calls for cheap? Digi has just released its new Smart Plans that are probably the most affordable with free flow of calls, for a limited time only. They are priced from as low as RM25/month and it still comes with a minimum of 1GB data.

151001-digi-smartplan-unlimited-calls-sms-table

For starters, the RM25/month and RM45/month options come with unlimited calls and SMS but it is only for your 3 friends within the Digi network. Calls to other networks are still chargeable at 20 sen/minute for voice and 15 sen/SMS. The RM25 plan comes with 1GB of data but if you need more, the RM45 gives you 3GB and 50 minutes of calls, which is quite reasonable.

If you want true unlimited calls, there’s the RM65 plan option and it still comes with 3GB of data along with free calls/sms to your 3 friends on Digi. SMS however is still chargeable at 10sen each.

The RM65 Smart Plan for voice is quite similar to U Mobile’s Hero Postpaid. As comparison, U Mobile’s P70 plan at RM70/month comes with more data at 7GB.

151001-digi-smartplan-topup-RM8-1GB

If you need more data on the fly, Digi is offering 1GB for RM8 that’s valid over 2 days. This is quite similar to its current data promo for prepaid. Some extra perks you’ll get with this new unlimited talk Smart Plans including zero data charges for streaming with Music Freedom for 120 days and free iflix access for 60 days.

MaxisONE Plan now comes with free extra 4GB data on 4G LTE

151002-maxisoneplan-4gb-free

The MaxisONE Plan which offers unlimited phone calls and SMS was recently revised to offer more data than before. If that’s not enough to entice you over, they are running a time limited promo where you can get additional 4GB of data that’s valid for 4 months.

151002-maxisone-plan-4GB-promo

This is applicable to any new or existing Maxis subscribers that sign up with the MaxisONE 98 plan and above, from 1st October until 30th November 2015. The 4GB is spread out across 4 months, where you get 1GB of data allocated each month. An SMS will be sent when the free 1GB data is assigned to you. Similarly they will send a reminder if you have hit 80% of your free quota limit.

Do note however that this 4GB free data quota is restricted for 4G network use only. In the FAQ, it mentions that it is utilised only when you’re within a 4G coverage area. If you’re on a 3G or 2G zone, you will be consuming from your current active data allocation.

Recently Maxis is boasting its fastest 4G network claim and they had even put a live speedometer at several popular spots around the country. If sheer speed is what you’re looking for, we managed to get 100Mbps download speeds on Maxis. This was tested at the Lower Ground floor of the Gardens that showed 4G+ (LTE-A) with a Galaxy Note5. If only it was this fast everywhere.

151014-iphone-6s-price-telco-contract-compared

Another year and another iPhone has finally arrived. The iPhone 6s will be available in Malaysia officially this Friday, 16th October at 12:00AM. If you’re looking to buy one on contract, it is available from all 4 telcos namely Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile. This is the fastest iPhone 6s roll out yet for Malaysia and it is also the most extensive in terms of contract options.

With U Mobile coming into the picture, they have shaken things up a little with its lower commitment plans and an interesting Microcredit financing option. For Maxis, it still retains the same iValue Plan offering that comes with bundled calls, text and SMS. However for those who make lots of phone calls, they are also making its MaxisONE Plan available as well. Celcom on the other hand has the simplest approach with just 3 FIRST plan options that come with its OPTIMISER feature.

Last but not least is Digi where they are bundling the iPhone 6s with their new SmartPlan that can be have with either more data or more voice and SMS. In terms of contract duration, majority of the plans are on 24 months with exception for Maxis and Digi where they do have 12 months option for selected plans.

So which telco should you go for? We’ve gathered the plans and device pricing from all 4 telcos for your easy reference. Check them out after the break.

Extra Telco Offers

For consistency, we compared the permanent non-promo bundles from each plan with its pricing without the 6% GST. Do note that the above minimum cost of ownership is just a guide and it is based on the assumption that you don’t incur additional usage on top of what has been included with the plan. On Maxis, they are giving 1GB extra for 6 months on its highest MaxisOne 188 plan. On top of that, they are also giving 4 months of additional 1GB for 4G LTE use only for the MaxisONE Plan as well.

Digi on the other hand is giving 2GB of extra data for 12 months in conjunction with its current Smart Plan promo. Following closely behind is Celcom where they are giving 1GB extra of free data for 12 months.

During sign up, most of these telcos would require an upfront payment, which is basically like a deposit that would be used to offset your upcoming bills. For U Mobile, they do offer a waiver for the advance payment but you’ll need to pay the device by credit card and sign up for their auto-debit billing feature.

Pick the right plan first

Before committing to a plan on contract, it is always recommended to pick one that suits your needs. The iPhone 6s is obviously cheaper on the highest plan and you might end up paying more than what you actually need. Apart from the calls, SMS and data offering, there are other things to consider such as network quality, customer service and other value added services including international roaming. For those who can’t afford to pay so much upfront, U Mobile offers the flexibility with Microcredit which you can determine its duration and amount. However do note that this works like a personal loan and there’s an interest of approximately 1.2%. As usual, if you spot any errors in the table above, do let us know in the comments above.

Buying without Contract

Considering the iPhone is more expensive than before, getting one with a telco contract would garner more savings provided that you get the right plan. However for those who prefer to get it outright, an iPhone 6s is priced officially from RM3,199 for the base 16GB model. Below is the full iPhone pricelist in Malaysia right now:

Can you get 40GB of internet for RM100?

151222-celcom-40GB-internet-postpaid-data-plan

We’ve heard it many times before. What’s the point of having fast internet if you don’t have enough quota? That’s like having a Ferrari with a tiny fuel tank!

The folks at Celcom apparently is aware of the increasing needs of its customers and they have just announced what they claim to be the greatest internet plans yet. How about 40GB of internet at just RM100 a month?

151222-celcom-first-blue-gold-internet-plans

Not to be confused with the Celcom First Blue and Celcom First Gold plans revealed not too long ago, Celcom has introduced another similar sounding postpaid product that’s designed for data-only users. Basically for those needing a data SIM for their tablets and possibly MiFi devices.

The star of the show is the Celcom First Gold Internet plan that offers a whopping 40GB of internet. Before you get too excited, mind you that the actual mobile data is only 6GB and it gets an extra 4GB for weekend use (1GB per weekend).

The balance 30GB? That’s coming from off-peak (1am-7am) mobile data quota of 12GB and Celcom WiFi quota of 6GB plus additional 12GB WiFi quota for off-peak (1am-7am) use. Seriously who uses Celcom WiFi, let alone being able to access one during off-peak hours? Even the WiFi coverage map gives an impression that it’s as wide as their mobile network.

If you’re a light data user, the Celcom First Blue Plan offers an accumulative 6GB of internet for RM45/month. Basically, this is the same perks as the normal Celcom First Blue postpaid plan for smartphones. Both First Blue Internet and First Gold Internet options let you carry forward unused data up to 2GB and 6GB respectively to the following month. Note that these new plans are data-only, so you can’t use it for phone calls, but strangely SMS is permitted.

According to Celcom, they will be offering bundled iPad contract plans from as low as RM1,268. The latest iPad Pro 128GB will be offered too but so far there’s no details from Celcom on its bundled pricing.

Digi offers 7GB of internet and unlimited calls for RM75/month

160128-digi-unlimited-calls-7GB-internet-RM75-promo

In a battle of giving more bang for your buck, Digi has up the ante by introducing its most competitive Smart Plan yet. For a limited time only, the yellow telco is offering a whopping 7GB of data plus free calls to all networks for only RM75/month on its new SmartPlan 75.

160128-digi-unlimited-calls-7GB-internet-RM75-promo-table

The plan is only RM10 more than their current SmartPlan 65 that offers 3GB of data with the same free-flow call perks. The rest of the plan remains the same with 10 sen per SMS and 20 sen per MMS. You can also send unlimited SMS to your 3 friends that are on Digi’s network.

On top of that, you also get to enjoy unlimited WhatsApp and WeChat connectivity. So even if have depleted your 7GB quota, you can still use them at regular speeds. To restore full speeds, you can top up additional 1GB at RM8 and it is valid for 2 days.

Overall this is an interesting response from Digi and they are closing the gap with U Mobile’s Hero Postpaid which offers 7GB of data and unlimited calls at RM70/month. Digi is even cheeky enough to mention “Real heroes should be smart as well” on the SmartPlan 75 page. If you factor in 4G coverage and the extra perks like free iflix for a year, this could be one of the most competitive postpaid offer right now. If you’re interested, you better sign up before it ends on 29th February 2016.

For more info, head over to Digi’s SmartPlan page.

U Mobile introduces Hero Plus Postpaid. Loaded with heaps of data for sharing.

Last year, U Mobile had introduced its Hero Postpaid plan that offers a generous 7GB of data and unlimited free calls for only RM70/month. Now they have enhanced its offering further with its new Hero Plus that’s designed to give you more data for you and your loved ones. For RM120/month, you get a total of 10GB of internet and unlimited free calls on 2 separate lines.

160129-u-mobile-hero-postpaid-plus-2

There’s no change for the current Hero P70 postpaid plan and essentially what’s new is their new Share 50 supplementary line. Each “Share 50″ line costs RM50/month and it lets you enjoy unlimited free calls plus additional 3GB of data. You can add up to 3x Share 50 lines under a Hero P70 postpaid account, which gives you a total of 16GB of data that’s shareable across principal and supplementary lines. For a family of 4, that comes out to RM55/month per person for unlimited calls with an average of 4GB of data each.

160129-u-mobile-hero-share-member-plans

The Share 50 line is also applicable for i90 and i130 postpaid plans as well. Since the internet quota is shared, there’s no wastage as all lines will utilise internet from the same pool. So if one uses less, the other line holders will get to use more. Yesterday Digi had responded to U Mobile’s Hero Postpaid by offering a new plan with 7GB of data and unlimited calls at RM75/month. So with U Mobile’s new supplementary option, which side would you pick?

Which telco in Malaysia offers the best value for calls, SMS and data all in?

160205-malaysia-postpaid-comparison

Malaysians are really getting spoilt for choice as the major telcos have gotten into a postpaid price war by delivering more data for less. After U Mobile introduced its Hero Postpaid plan that offered 7GB of data and unlimited calls to all networks for RM70/month, the competition is seriously heating up.

Digi has thrown the gauntlet by introducing its SmartPlan 75 that comes with similar offering at RM75/month for a limited time only. Just earlier this week, Celcom has responded by revamping its FIRST Gold Postpaid plan with 10GB of data for only RM80/month.

So which is the best “Pau ka liau” (do everything) plan in town? Read on to find out.

160205-malaysia-high-data-quota-postpaid-comparison-celcom-digi-maxis-umobile

Celcom
On the surface, Celcom offers the best value with 10GB for RM80/month. That’s equivalent to just RM8 per GB, and you also get unlimited free calls and SMS for greater peace of mind. However the only gripe is probably the way they split the data. 5GB is given for all day use and the other 5GB is only for the weekends (split at 1.25GB per weekend).

If you need more data, you can top up RM20 per GB and it is valid according to your billing cycle. Another plus for Celcom is that you can carry forward unused data up to 5GB but this is only from the all-day data bucket. On top of that, they are giving out 5GB of WiFi for free, but that’s only usable if you can find a Celcom WiFi hotspot in the first place.

Digi/U Mobile
For Digi and U Mobile, both are very similar with 7GB of data and unlimited free calls. Unlike Celcom and Maxis, you would need to pay for SMS. For Digi, you can enjoy unlimited SMS but that’s only applicable to 3 numbers on their network.

If you use more than 7GB, you can top up data but both only offers a single short term option. 1GB on Digi costs RM8 and it is only valid for 2 days while U Mobile offers a booster pack of 1.5GB at RM10 that’s valid for 3 days.

Maxis
Meanwhile for Maxis, they are the most expensive of the lot offering just 1GB at RM98/month. While they promise a worry-free proposition with unlimited calls and SMS, it is way costly if you compare this with Celcom’s FIRST Gold plan side by side. Even if you plan to add more data, it will cost you a hefty RM30 per GB. What’s more mind boggling is that Maxis is offering 4GB of data for only RM48/month for its Hotlink prepaid users.

Of course, pricing is just one factor to consider. There are other things to take into account such as 4G LTE coverage, quality of calls, customer service, and other value added services that you may use in the future. For Celcom, they are offering unlimited music service via Yonder, while Digi offers unlimited music streaming for 120 days and free iflix for a year.

On U Mobile, you get to enjoy free YouTube and Tonton streaming between 2AM and 10AM, plus free music streaming for radio and KKBox all day. If you travel a lot, U Mobile is also offering free 50MB data roaming daily for selected countries. As for Maxis, they do offer free Spotify with free streaming quota for its MaxisOne Plan but that’s only applicable if you opt for its higher MaxisONE 128 plan and above.

Which plan would you choose? Let us know in the comments below.

UPDATE: TMgo Unlimited Postpaid Plan is available at limited areas. More details after the break.

TM is going big on 4G LTE this year. Before they launch their all-new mobile service via P1, TM is currently offering 4G LTE broadband through TMgo. Prior to this, TMgo is available only as a prepaid service and you can sign up for it with a USB dongle or a 4G MiFi hotspot device.

If you’re looking for something more permanent for the home, it appears that TM is now offering a postpaid plan that comes with unlimited quota. Sounds like the perfect plan if you can’t get streamyx or Unifi at home.

160210-tmgo-postpaid-unlimited-4G-LTE

According to a forum post, TMgo postpaid is offered at RM99/month with a 24 months contract. While TMgo’s 4G LTE network is capable of going up to 20Mbps, the plan only offers 1Mbps download speeds. Interestingly, the user has shared that he managed to get 2Mbps download.

160210-tmgo-huawei-B593-LTE-router

As this is meant for home use, TM is bundling the Huawei B593 Fixed Wireless Terminal worth RM350 for free. Since TMgo is a broadband only service, you can’t make or receive voice calls.

Overall, the pricing is quite similar to P1’s unlimited home broadband offering but TMgo operates on LTE at 850MHz band instead of 2.3GHz WiMAX. In terms of coverage, TMgo is available in Kedah, Kelantan, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Sabah, Sarawak and Selangor. You can check if you’re place is covered over here.

Thanks @9VSQA for the tip!
