Maxis has revamped its current postpaid plans with even more data for the same price. Most importantly, they are finally getting rid of the dreaded weekday-weekend data split. The new upgrade will take effect automatically starting from Thursday, 4th June 2020.
The base Maxis Postpaid 98 which comes with 20GB all-day and 10GB of 4G weekend data is now upgraded to 40GB/month of data which you can use all-day. If you currently topped-up RM10/month to combine all-day and weekend data on Postpaid 98, you’ll receive a total of 50GB/month.
For Maxis Postpaid 128, 158 and 188 users, you’ll receive an extra 20GB, 30GB and 50GB respectively. Below are the full postpaid upgrade details:
Meanwhile, for those on Maxis Postpaid Share 48 supplementary line, you’ll get a total of 30GB all-day data instead of the current 10GB + 10GB allocation. If you’re on the Tablet 28 plan, your 10GB quota will be tripled to 30GB.
According to Maxis, the upgrade process will take place between 4th to 10th of June 2020. You will be notified by SMS once the upgrade is completed. New subscribers can enjoy the new upgraded plans from 4th June.
During the 7-day upgrade period, no change of share limit quota between family lines or change of rate plan will be allowed. The upgraded data will not be prorated and you’ll receive the full quota after the upgrade.
The last major Maxis postpaid upgrade was in 2017. Last year, the green telco had upgraded its base Postpaid 98 plan with more data and they have provided the option to merge all-day and weekend data for an additional RM10/month.
For more info, you can check out Maxis’ upgrade notice on their website. If you didn’t notice, Maxis has recently changed its MaxisONE plan branding to simply Maxis Postpaid.

As announced by the Prime Minister, Malaysians telcos are offering free 1GB data daily to its customers under the Penjana initiative. This is to help Malaysians to stay connected for learning and productivity purposes as working from home is still encouraged.
U Mobile has provided more details about the offer and it will be allocated to all active postpaid and prepaid customers (except for WeChatGo). This free data will be available from 10 June until 31 December 2020 and it replaces the current free 1GB offer which will end on the 9th of June.
Unlike other telcos, you won’t need to redeem the data daily. According to U Mobile, the free 1GB data will continue to be given to all customers that have accepted the initial free 1GB data offer.
For new customers, they will receive a confirmation SMS from U Mobile informing them that the free 1GB data will be provisioned daily. No further action is required from customers after that.
Restrictions for free data
As revealed yesterday, the free 1GB daily data is intended for education, productivity and information-related services, and it is applicable between 8am to 6pm daily. This could include online collaboration tools, learning portals, teleconferencing apps and web browsing on educational sites.
The free 1GB data does not cover gaming, social media, video and music streaming apps, services and websites. As listed by U Mobile above, apps such as YouTube, Spotify, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Netflix, PUBG and WeChat are not included. The other telcos such as Celcom, Digi and Maxis also have the same restrictions for the free data. This means you’ll need to purchase a data plan for the rest of your connectivity needs.
On top of that, access to key government websites and apps including MySejahtera, MyTrace and Gerak Malaysia will continue to be free. Calls to the Ministry of Health and Crisis Preparedness Response Centre are still free.

Celcom is now offering new add-on options for Celcom Mega postpaid customers. When the new Mega Unlimited plans were introduced, customers were only limited to 5GB hotspot data for its RM98/month Mega Unlimited M and 10GB hotspot data on the RM148/month Mega Unlimited L plan. If you need more, you can now buy additional hotspot data that starts from as little as RM1.
Extra hotspot quota for Mega Unlimited
Celcom Mega Unlimited customers can purchase 1GB of hotspot data which is valid for 24 hours for only RM1. If you need more hotspot data for long term use, you can purchase 10GB for RM10, and it will be valid until the end of your billing cycle.
Take note that the speed of the hotspot data will follow your subscribed plan. This means you’ll get 5Mbps on Mega Unlimited M and 15Mbps on Mega Unlimited L. The extra hotspot add-on data can be purchased via the Celcom Life App.
Extra quota for Mega Lightning Add-on
For Mega Lightning postpaid subscribers, Celcom has more than doubled its add-on quota. You can now get 5GB of extra quota at RM20 while 12GB of data is now offered for RM40. If you need more, you can activate 25GB of extra data for RM80.
The extra add-on data can also be purchased via the Celcom Life App. Unlike the unlimited plan, there’s no speed cap or separated quota for hotspot usage on Celcom Mega Lightning.
Below is a recap of Celcom’s Mega Postpaid plans. You can learn more in our announcement post. Alternatively, you can visit Celcom’s postpaid page.
Need a spare SIM for your extra device or a new line for a family member? U Mobile is now running a RM1 per month special promo for its Share 20 postpaid supplementary plan. This is applicable on U Mobile Unlimited Hero P139 postpaid.
To recap, U Mobile’s P139 plan comes with unlimited high-speed data with unlimited calls to all networks for RM139/month. The Share 20 supplementary plan typically costs RM20/month per line and it allows you to share 50GB data from the main line’s 50GB hotspot quota. The Share 20 plan also gets free 30 minutes of voice calls to any U Mobile number daily and the call rate is 5 sen per 30 secs to all networks.
With this special offer, each Share 20 line can be subscribed at only RM1/month per line and you can activate up to 3 supplementary lines. This means you can have a total of 4 lines (1 principal + 3 supplementary) for only RM142/month (excluding taxes).
According to the FAQ, the promo is offered as a RM19/month rebate on your postpaid bill and it will be waived for the 12 consecutive bills. This would mean that the offer is valid for one year and it will go back to RM20/month per line once it’s over.
It is also stated that the RM1/line offer is only applicable to new supplementary lines which include port-in or conversion from U Mobile prepaid. Existing Share 20 line users will not get the RM1 offer even if the principal line has changed its plan from P99 to P139. The FAQ also states that the first-month supplementary plan access fee will be charged in full as Share 20 is a non-pro-rated plan.
Digi has announced its new Digi Internet Freedom which promises to provide total connectivity not just for the home but also on the go for everyone in the family. On the surface, this looks like the yellow telco’s answer to MaxisOne Prime but upon closer inspection, it isn’t what you think.
When you visit the product page, it seems to suggest that you could get fibre broadband and a postpaid plan from RM130/month. In reality, the RM130/month is actually just for the 100Mbps fibre broadband connection without any additional mobile plan. You’ll have to pay at least RM80/month for an eligible postpaid plan to enjoy the “Internet Freedom” perks. The next fibre broadband option is 500Mbps at RM190/month and 1Gbps at RM290/month.
Across the board, if you pair it with a Digi Postpaid 80 plan and above, Digi is providing 6 months of Amazon Prime Video subscription worth RM162. However, you won’t get any additional savings or discounts for pairing the postpaid plan on the 100Mbps fibre broadband option.
For customers that sign up for the 500Mbps and 1Gbps fibre plans, you can get RM40 off on your home broadband subscription and up to 20% off on your Digi Postpaid line. The amount of savings that you’ll get depends on how many lines you have in your account.
If you have 1 line, you’ll get 5% discount and if you have 2 lines, you’ll get 10% off. If you have 3 or more lines, Digi offers 20% off. Do note that the discount is only applicable to the principal line only and you won’t enjoy any savings on the supplementary line subscription fee.
The issue with Digi’s Internet Freedom offering is that it isn’t clear how much you should pay each month for the fibre + mobile plan combo. It is as if Digi wants its potential customers to whip out their calculator and perform their own calculation.
We did the math and below is the total monthly subscription cost for the fibre broadband plan + 1 postpaid line (excluding 6% tax):
Digi 100Mbps Fibre + Postpaid 80 – RM210
Digi 100Mbps Fibre + Postpaid 120 – RM250
Digi 100Mbps Fibre + Postpaid 160 – RM290
Digi 100Mbps Fibre + Postpaid 190 – RM320
Digi 500Mbps Fibre + Postpaid 80 – RM226
Digi 500Mbps Fibre + Postpaid 120 – RM264
Digi 500Mbps Fibre + Postpaid 160 – RM302
Digi 500Mbps Fibre + Postpaid 190 – RM330.50
Digi 1Gbps Fibre + Postpaid 80 – RM326
Digi 1Gbps Fibre + Postpaid 120 – RM364
Digi 1Gbps Fibre + Postpaid 160 – RM402
Digi 1Gbps Fibre + Postpaid 190 – RM430.50
With the additional discounts offered, the price gap between the 100Mbps and 500Mbps plan is quite minimal and it makes more sense to go for the 500Mbps option if you pair it with a postpaid plan. Do note that you could save a bit more if you have additional supplementary lines under your account.
Higher subscription fee than before
Overall, Digi has increased the prices of its fibre broadband subscriptions across the board. When Digi introduced the plans last year, the 100Mbps plan was going for RM129/month, 500Mbps was priced at RM159/month and 1Gbps was going for RM199/month. When we asked Digi about the price difference, we are told that the old prices were an introductory offer when it kicked off its Fibre pilot launch in Melaka, Klang Valley and Sabah.
Another thing to take note is that the upload speeds are slightly different as well. The 100Mbps plan was previously offered with 100Mbps upload but Digi Internet Freedom is now offering a lower 50Mbps upload. There’s no change in speed for the 500Mbps and 1Gbps plan as both options continue to offer 200Mbps upload.
What’s interesting is that Digi is now using the term “up to” to describe its download and upload speeds. When we asked Digi if the advertised speeds are guaranteed, we are told that it is provided on a best effort basis.
Similar coverage as Time?
We are told that Digi Internet Freedom is available at selected locations in the Klang Valley, Penang and Sabah. When we did a quick search on Digi’s coverage checker, it appears that its availability is similar to Time Fibre Broadband. The search results are mostly high rise residential addresses. This isn’t surprising as Digi had announced early this year that it is tapping on Time’s network to expand its fibre broadband footprint.
So here’s the thing, if the availability is the same as Time, why should you pay more on Digi? At the moment, Time is offering 100Mbps at RM99/month, 500Mbps at RM139/month and 1Gbps at RM199/month.
If you get Time’s 1Gbps plan and Digi Postpaid 80 separately, that would cost you RM279/month versus RM326/month on Digi Internet Freedom. That’s RM1,128 worth of savings for a 24-month period. Since Digi isn’t providing any savings for its base 100Mbps fibre plan, you can save RM31/month if you subscribe to Time broadband’s 100Mbps directly for RM99/month.
As usual, the fibre broadband plans from Digi are tied to a 24-month contract. If you plan to make voice calls at home, take note that the fibre plans don’t come with fixed voice service.
After Celcom introduced its Xpax Truly Unlimited Prepaid, the blue telco has revised its XL Lite postpaid plan with free unlimited YouTube. This is offered for free for both M and L pass at no extra charge.
The XP Lite postpaid plan starts at RM28/month and you get unlimited calls to all networks and 1GB of high-speed data. To upsize your plan with more data, Celcom offers two options – M pass at RM10/month and L Pass at RM30/month.
With the M Pass (RM38/month), you’ll get an additional 7GB of data and unlimited YouTube streaming in SD. Meanwhile, the L Pass (RM58/month) gives you 15GB of extra data and unlimited YouTube streaming in HD. If you stay on with them for more than 6 months, you’ll get free 1-hour ultra hour pass every day from the 7th month onwards.
According to the FAQ, the unlimited YouTube streaming for the M pass can provide standard definition resolution at 480p. Meanwhile, the L pass lets you enjoy unlimited YouTube streaming at 720p. Based on YouTube‘s requirements, you’ll need at least a sustained speed of 1.1Mbps to get 480p streaming and 2.5Mbps for HD 720p resolution. It is also mentioned that tethering is not allowed for the free YouTube quota streaming.
For more info, you can check out Celcom’s XP Lite page.
It looks like our local telcos are now revising their respective affordable postpaid offering. After engaging an unlimited prepaid war last month, Maxis seems to be turning its attention to its Hotlink Postpaid Plan. Formerly known as Hotlink Postpaid Flex, the new revised plans appear to come with more data but there’s now a speed cap.
As spotted by Lowyat.Net, some dealers have shared brochures of the new Hotlink Postpaid plans which claims to offer high-speed internet up to 30Mbps. On the current Hotlink Postpaid Flex, there’s no mention of a speed cap and you can get full speeds depending on the network. Nevertheless, 30Mbps is still pretty fast and it’s more than enough for 4K video streaming according to YouTube’s requirements.
The base plan still starts from RM30/month with 1GB of data plus unlimited calls and SMS to all networks. With the new revision, you now get more data as you level up in the monthly commitment.
As shown above, RM40/month gives you 11GB of data and RM50/month gives you 21GB of data. Essentially, the Hotlink plan lets you add 10GB of data for an extra RM10/month which is pretty reasonable.
For heavy data users, there’s now a higher RM70/month option that provides you with 20GB of data for all usage and 10GB for YouTube. The weird thing about this plan is that it’s called Postpaid 60 but yet it costs RM70/month.
If you compare it with the RM50/month option, it looks like you’re not really getting your money’s worth as you’re paying an additional RM20 on top of the Postpaid 50 plan just to get 10GB of extra data for YouTube and 1GB less for all usage. Based on the lower two plans, it would make more sense if Hotlink bundles 31GB of data for all usage at RM60/month.
Perhaps the extra RM10/month for Postpaid 60 might be for additional add-ons like unlimited social or unlimited music streaming but there are no asterisk or fine print that mentions this.
At the moment, Hotlink Postpaid offers 10GB data + 10GB of YouTube for RM60/month and 5GB data + 3GB YouTube for RM40/month. Both plans also come with unlimited calls and SMS. Hotlink currently also offer additional add-ons such as Unlimited Social and Unlimited Music at RM10 each per month. There’s also an Unlimited Chat add-on that costs RM5/month.
On the right side of the brochure, you also see the Hotlink + Fibre broadband bundle at RM99/month. The combo is the same as the current offering which offers 30Mbps of unlimited fibre internet plus a Hotlink postpaid plan that comes with unlimited calls along with 10GB of data + 10GB of YouTube.
At the time of writing, the plans are not available on Hotlink’s website and we expect Maxis to announce the plans within the next couple of days.
A few weeks back, a Hotlink brochure from a dealer had surfaced online which appears to be a new postpaid plan. What’s interesting is that the brochure had highlighted “high speed internet up to 30Mbps” which is probably the first time we are seeing a speed cap for Hotlink postpaid.
Maxis has reached out to us with a response and they clarified that there’s no speed cap whatsoever for its Hotlink postpaid plans. Users can get more than 30Mbps and the actual speed is subject to coverage and signal strength of its 4G network. They added that the 30Mbps in the brochure refers to its Fibre product that comes with a postpaid bundle for RM99/month.
The telco also mentioned that there are currently no plans to revamp its existing Hotlink Postpaid plans. They added that the “plans” shown on the brochure are in fact options available which include the ongoing add-on pass of RM10 for 10GB.
At the moment, Hotlink Postpaid’s base plan at RM30/month comes with unlimited calls and SMS with 1GB of data. If you add RM10/month (RM40/month total), you’ll get the same perks with an extra 10GB (11GB total). Adding another RM10/month (RM50/month total) will give you an additional 20GB extra (21GB total).
Meanwhile, the highest option at RM70/month is basically the current postpaid 60 plan at RM60/month that comes with unlimited calls, unlimited SMS, 10GB data and 10GB of YouTube, with the additional RM10 for 10GB pass. With this configuration, you’re getting 20GB of data plus 10GB of YouTube.
While the pricing and quota now make sense, it is quite odd that Maxis is marketing them as individual plans. Furthermore, if there is no speed cap, what’s the purpose of highlighting “up to 30Mbps” right under the “Hotlink Postpaid Plan” header?
As pointed out by one of our readers, the old Postpaid Flex brochures did state “Fast Internet up to 30Mbps”. As shown above, the 30Mbps speed cap was mentioned for both the base Flex 30 plan (RM30 for 1GB) as well as the Flex 40 (RM40 for 5GB) option. When we checked Maxis’ Hotlink Postpaid page, T&C and FAQ, we can’t find any mention of the 30Mbps speed since the plan was introduced in December 2018.
Nevertheless, 30Mbps is still pretty fast for typical data consumption on a mobile device. According to Netflix, you would need a stable 25Mbps connection in order to stream in Ultra HD resolution. If you’re on Hotlink Postpaid, do let us know about your mobile data experience in the comments section below. Can you get more than 30Mbps on mobile data?
If you’re a Celcom Postpaid customer, you would have probably received an SMS about a quota upgrade. It appears that the blue telco is now offering at least 10GB of extra data for its loyal postpaid users.
Celcom has not made any official announcement but it seems to be applicable to subscribers on the older Celcom First postpaid and the current Celcom Mega Internet plans.
From what we know, users on the base Celcom Mega postpaid plan which currently offers unlimited calls and 30GB of data at RM80/month, are being upgraded to 40GB of quota at no extra cost.
Meanwhile, Celcom Gold Supreme plan users will be upgraded from 25GB weekday + 25GB weekend data to 35GB weekday + 35GB weekend data. In another example, Celcom Mobile Gold Plus subscribers will have their quota upgraded from 40GB to 50GB. The SMS indicates that the changes will be reflected starting on your next bill and there will be no additional cost or fees.
A couple of weeks ago, Celcom had upgraded its XP Lite Postpaid plan with free unlimited YouTube quota. The unlimited quota is only offered to customers that subscribe to the M Pass (RM38/month) and the L Pass (RM58/month). Users on the M pass can enjoy unlimited YouTube at standard definition at 480p while L pass users can stream at high definition of 720p.
Last month, Maxis has also upgraded its postpaid plans with more quota and they have gotten rid of its weekday and weekend data split. Maxis Postpaid 98 customers now enjoy 40GB of all-day data for RM98/month.
If you’re a Celcom postpaid customer, do let us know if you’ve received a message about the free quota upgrade.
As spotted yesterday, Celcom has upgraded its current Mega postpaid plans with more data. This is applicable to the Mega Lightning option that comes with full high-speed data.
The base Celcom Mega postpaid plan is priced at RM80/month and it comes with unlimited calls to all networks. Instead of 30GB of data, the plan is now upgraded to 40GB per month.
To upsize, the M pass remains unchanged with additional 10GB for RM18/month (Total: 50GB for RM98/month). However, the higher L Pass and XL Pass now comes with 10GB of extra data. This means you’ll get a total of 80GB of data with Mega Lightning L Pass and a total of 120GB of data with the Mega Lightning XL Pass option.
In addition, Celcom’s supplementary Family Line is getting double quota upgrade from 15GB to 30GB of data. The price also remains unchanged at RM40 per line per month and it also comes with unlimited calls.
For subscribers that take up the Mega Unlimited option, there are no changes in terms of pricing and you would still continue to enjoy unlimited quota. In case you missed it, Celcom has also recently upgraded its XL Lite Postpaid with free unlimited YouTube but this is only for the M and L pass.
Digi has just announced a revision to its sub-RM60 postpaid plans which now come with more data plus extra bonuses. Formerly known as Digi’s JomStart, the new affordable postpaid offering is now renamed to Digi Postpaid Start and it starts from RM38/month.
According to Digi, the revised plans – Postpaid 38 and 58, offer unlimited calls plus generous amount of data with no-speed caps and weekend data quota splits. On top of that, you’ll be rewarded with more data the longer you stay on with Digi.
Digi Postpaid 58
On Digi Postpaid 58, the plan comes with 15GB of base high-speed data and up to 20GB/month of loyalty bonus which varies depending on the tenure of subscription. After every 6 months, you’ll receive an additional 5GB/month of data up to 4 times.
On top of that there’s also additional free 15GB Internet bonus 365 which is split evenly across 30 days. This means you’ll get extra 500MB of data each day.
SMS is not included and is charged at 10 sen each. Meanwhile, the unlimited voice calls are applicable to all networks. If you have leftover data from the previous month, you can carry over up to 1GB to the following month.
If all that extra bonus data sounds confusing, you’re not alone. Digi has provided with a table to illustrate how much you’re getting each month. As shown above, you will receive a total of 30GB/month in the first 6 months of the tenure and it will increase by another 5GB/month until it becomes 50GB/month after 24 months. This is similar to the revised postpaid plans that were introduced in December.
However, do remember that the 15GB of internet bonus 365 isn’t something you can fully utilise at anytime as it is allocated at 500MB per day. According to Digi’s press release, the quota upgrades will automatically be granted to customers by 21st August 2020.
Old Digi Postpaid 58
As a comparison, the previous Postpaid 58 plan had 10GB of base data but it also gets the same 20GB loyalty bonus. What’s different is that the old plan had a welcome bonus of 5GB for the first 6 month and it didn’t come with the 500MB/day extra bonus data. Overall, you’re getting more data with the new revised plan.
Digi Postpaid 38
If you want to spend less, there’s the Digi Postpaid 38 which appears to be exclusively available through Digi stores. For RM38/month, you’ll also get unlimited calls to all networks and 9GB of base high-speed data.
On top of that, it comes with Loyalty Bonus of up to 12GB/month. The plan also gets 7.5GB Internet Bonus 365 which is allocated at 250MB per day.
So when you first subscribe, you’ll enjoy a total of 16.5GB/month in the first 6 months and eventually you will receive up to 28.5GB/monthafter 24 months.
If you need more data, Digi is offering 1GB high-speed internet passes for only RM1 starting from 30th July 2020. To learn more about Digi Postpaid Start, you can check out the yellow telco’s postpaid page.
For those who prefer unlimited data at a lower monthly fee, Digi is offering unlimited data and calls on prepaid for only RM35/month. However, this plan is offered to selected customers through the MyDigi app’s “Box of Surprise”. However, the biggest catch is that speeds are capped at 3Mbps.

Below are the current Digi Internet Freedom Fibre Broadband options which are now available for subscription:
All plans come with unlimited quota and are tied with a 24-month contract. According to Digi, its fibre broadband service can serve 3.7 million households throughout Malaysia and this is made possible through collaborations with TM, Time and TNB’s Allo.
If you need unlimited internet on the go, customers on Digi’s 100Mbps fibre broadband plan (DIF 130 and above) and above can add-on a postpaid plan with unlimited data, unlimited calls and 300 SMS for RM60/month.
Essentially, this is the Digi Postpaid Infinite 100 plan which also comes with 20GB of hotspot data. Typically, the Infinite 100 plan comes with a speed cap of 10Mbps, but for this fibre broadband bundle, Digi has confirmed that there’s no speed cap.
On DIF 130 (100Mbps), you can get up to 2 lines while DIF 190 (500Mbps) customers can get up to 3 lines. For those on DIF 270 (800Mbps) and 290 (1Gbps), you are able to add-on a maximum of 4 lines. If you add an unlimited postpaid line, you’ll get 12-months free subscription for Viu.
If you get a 100Mbps fibre broadband plan + 1 unlimited postpaid, it will cost you RM190/month. If you get it with 2 postpaid plans, it will cost you RM250/month. Overall, it’s more affordable than Maxis as the green telco offers 100Mbps fibre broadband + Maxis Postpaid 98 (unlimited data) for RM227/month. If you need an additional postpaid line (add-on Maxis Share 48), it will cost you RM275/month in total.
