Digi Postpaid 110 plan now with “Unlimited” data for the weekends

161205-digi-weekend-unlimited

With competition heating up in the postpaid scene, Digi has revamped its postpaid offering with its first “unlimited” weekend data offering. Could this be Digi’s answer to webe‘s unlimited proposition?

161205-digi-postpaid-unlimited-weekend-data-110-plan

On the surface, Digi Postpaid 110 gives you 25GB of weekday data, unlimited 4G weekend data and unlimited calls for RM110/month. Previously, the same plan offered 20GB of weekday + 20GB of 4G weekend data along with unlimited calls. In addition, you can also carry forward up to 3GB of unused data to the following month and it also comes bundled with 1,000 SMS.

Is the weekend 4G data truly unlimited? Well, Digi’s definition of “unlimited” is rather different. Their previous “unlimited” off-peak prepaid data was capped at 15GB while its new “non-stop” free video streaming is limited at 10GB/month. When we called up the Digi hotline, we are told that the Unlimited 4G weekend data on Digi Postpaid 110 has a Fair Usage Policy of 100GB/month. It’s still massive with a total of 125GB/month (less than RM1/GB) but it definitely isn’t unlimited as advertised. Take note that the weekend data is only applicable on 4G and it will utilise your weekday data if you’re connected to 3G and below.

Border Roaming now in 5 countries

For seamless roaming, Digi has also expanded its Border Roaming to 5 countries. Apart from Singapore (StarHub), it now includes Brunei (DST), Indonesia (Indosat), Myanmar (Telenor) and Thailand (DTAC/DTN). Digi’s Border Roaming costs RM30/month and it includes a monthly 5GB of data quota and 60 minutes of calls. If you’re a Digi Postpaid 110 subscriber, it is free of charge and it will cost you RM5/month if you’re on Digi Postpaid 80.

161206-celcom-iphone-se-platinum-plan-3

The iPhone SE can be yours at RM288 for the 16GB model and RM488 for the larger 64GB capacity version on FIRST Platinum postpaid plan. During sign up, there’s a required upfront payment of RM1,400 which will be rebated fully to your bill on the first month. That should cover your monthly subscription fee for the next 8-9 months if there are no extra charges.

170101-webe-RM79month-cny-unlimited-offer

Webe’s RM79/month promotion for its unlimited everything postpaid plan has been extended. Originally priced at RM199/month, webe is continuing to give RM120/month off to everyone as part of its Chinese New Year promotion.

Previously webe’s postpaid plan was offered at RM199/month and subscribers are eligible to get RM60 off if they are an existing TM customer plus another RM60 off for using a “certified” device. To drive mass adoption, they had removed such restrictions by offering one fixed price to everyone regardless of what device they are using.

The original promo was supposed to end on 31st December 2016 but they have extended it until 11 February 2017. The plan gives you unlimited voice calls, SMS and data on your mobile. Tethering is available but webe is charging RM6 for 2 hours of usage.

To entice more subscriptions, they are also offering more discounts if you sign up more friends and family under your account. A second line costs RM69/month and it gets cheaper down to RM49/month for your 4th line onwards.

If you just need a data-only SIM that allows internet sharing, webe had recently introduced its home broadband offering which comes with 10GB of data for RM59/month. It lets you tether up to 10 devices for free and as an early bird promo, they are giving 20GB of extra quota for a limited time.

For more info, head over to webe’s mobile page.

redONE’s new Amazing Plans offer 20GB of data for RM48/month

170104-redone-amazing-postpaid-plan

Not wanting to be left out, redONE has introduced its new Amazing plans that come with more data than before. The MVNO known for its barebones offering is now providing up to 20GB of data with free calls for under RM50/month.

However, if you take a closer look, the data offering might not be as amazing as you think.

170104-redone-amazing-postpaid-plan-options

Similar to its previous postpaid offering, the Amazing Plans start from just RM8/month and it comes bundled with 1GB data and free calls (limited to 100 hours) to all redONE users. If you want more, the Amazing 28 postpaid option gives you 10GB of data while Amazing 48 doubles that with 20GB of data.

170104-redone-amazing-postpaid-plan-RM28

On the surface, it looks a lot but redONE is splitting its Amazing 28/48 quota with high-speed and basic internet (throttled) allocation. The Amazing 28 gives you 4GB of high-speed 4G data and 6GB of basic internet. Meanwhile, the Amazing 48 plan comes with 8GB of high-speed 4G data and 12GB of basic internet.

170104-redone-amazing-postpaid-plan-RM48

Both plans also get free calls to redONE users. On top of that, Amazing 48 gets additional 200 minutes of talk time to all networks (mobile and fixed line) within Malaysia. For excess usage, it would cost RM0.15/minute for calls to other networks, while SMS would cost 5 sen to redONE users and 10 sen for other numbers.

Despite the having bulk of the quota for basic internet, the new plans generally have more high-speed data than before. If you’re looking for the most generous high-speed postpaid offering, Digi could be the better choice with 5GB of high-speed all-day data and 5GB of 4G weekend data at RM50/month.

Take note there’s a 6 months contract period on redONE and could be as long as 24 months if you pick a premium number. For those who are on the redONE Data8 plan, you’re able to upgrade to the Amazing 8 plan. Need more info? Head over to redONE’s Amazing Plans page.

170213-webe-postpaid-RM79-extended-again

If you’ve missed webe’s “limited-time” RM79/month offer, don’t panic. The discounted subscription offer has been extended again until further notice.

To recap, the webe postpaid plan was originally priced at RM199/month but they are giving RM120 off each month regardless of what phone you’re using. Initially, the RM79/month subscription price was only applicable if you’re an existing TM customer and if you own a “webe-certified” phone that can support 850MHz on LTE.

The webe postpaid plan gives you unlimited voice calls, SMS and mobile data. Unlike other telcos, webe charges for tethering at RM6 for 2 hours. If you don’t use your phone as a hotspot, your data usage is unlimited without data caps. Just take note that peer to peer traffic will be throttled to 64kbps and video streaming speeds will be managed at 480p. For those that travel, webe is also offering unlimited daily roaming from RM39/day at selected countries.

170213-webe-video-calling-01

With Valentine’s day happening tomorrow, webe wants you to video call your loved ones on their postpaid plan. If you plan to do so, just remember to use your instant messaging apps such as whatsapp, skype, line or wechat as native video calling isn’t supported.

170213-webe-video-calling-02

Webe hasn’t mentioned any end date for this extended promo and they probably should make this RM79/month offer permanent. For more information about webe, head over to the webe postpaid page.

U Mobile now offers free unlimited data for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

170216-umobile-unnlimited-facebook-twitter-instagram-app-onz

UPDATE: Check out our U Mobile UNLIMITED Power Prepaid vs Power Prepaid plan comparison.

U Mobile has always been shaking things up in the telco industry with its generous data offering. First, they had introduced Video-Onz which gave unlimited free video streaming and this was followed by Music-Onz which does the same thing for music. Then, they had Game-Onz data add-ons designed for unlimited gaming through WiFi tethering.

Now they are introducing App Onz which offers unlimited free data for social. This lets you enjoy Facebook (including Messenger), Twitter and Instagram without utilising your normal data quota.

170216-umobile-unlimited-power-prepaid-rate

U Mobile App Onz is rolled out with its new UNLIMITED POWER Prepaid plan. It’s the first prepaid in Malaysia to provide unlimited data for all your social needs and it comes with 300 minutes of free calls each month within the U Mobile network. A starter pack costs RM8.50 and it comes bundled with RM5 of credit and 200MB of high-speed data that’s valid for 10 days.

Compared to the current POWER Prepaid plan, the call rates for the new prepaid are slightly higher at 12 sen/30 secs instead of 7 sen/30 secs while SMS costs 12 sen each. According to U Mobile, the new UNLIMITED Power Prepaid still comes with free 1GB of high-speed data each month with a minimum top up of RM10. You’ll lose the free 1GB high-speed internet each month but you get free 1GB of basic (throttled) data instead of 2GB basic data.

For existing U Mobile prepaid customers, you can enjoy App Onz by migrating to the new UNLIMITED POWER Prepaid by dialling *118*6*2*3# beginning 17 February 2017 which costs RM3 to make the switch. For postpaid customers, App Onz will be activated automatically between 17 to 25 February 2017. App Onz has no time, weekend or quota restrictions, so you can use it anytime and anywhere.

U Mobile also has plans to add more apps into App Onz sometime in the future. In case you missed it, data usage of Waze is free if you’re on U Mobile’s postpaid and prepaid UMI plan.

Since U Mobile is now offering free usage for video, music and now social, it is probably harder for most Hero P98 postpaid subscribers to finish their quota. The new UNLIMITED Power Prepaid starter pack will go on sale starting tomorrow, 17 February 2017.

Maxis introduces its own device. Is this your NeXT phone?

$

Maxis now has its own smartphone and it’s simply called the NeXT by Maxis. For RM78/month, the NeXT is an all-in-one bundle that gives you a 4G phone, bundled data and calls plus an extended warranty for a worry-free experience.

The smartphone itself is called the NeXT M1 and it gets a 5.5″ HD display, an Octa-Core processor and a 13MP camera. Maxis hasn’t revealed its full specs but it looks like an entry-level device.

UPDATE: Maxis has updated the page with the device’s spec sheet. The NeXT M1 has a 5.5″ Full HD display and it runs on a Helio P10 (MediaTek MT6755) processor mated to 2GB RAM with 16GB storage (expandable via MicroSD). For camera, it gets a 13MP main unit while the front has a 5MP shooter with LED flash. The battery is a non-removable 2,960mAh capacity unit which charges via microUSB.

The NeXT package is tied with a 24-month contract and you’ll get 4GB of data and 50 minutes of calls included each month. If you need more data, you can top up 500MB/day at RM5, 1GB/day at RM8 or 3GB/3days at RM12.

According to the site, the NeXT M1 is offered with RM0 upfront but strangely the FAQ has a section on device advance payment. Interestingly, there’s also mention of 4G weekend data in the FAQ as well.

UPDATE: The NeXT’s 4GB data is split between 2GB all day and 2GB 4G weekend data.

The biggest differentiator would be its Ultimate Care as the device comes with a 24-month warranty against defects and 12 months coverage for its bundled accessories (e.g. cable, charger). For greater piece of mind, there’s also a 6-months screen protection and Maxis is also offering a one-time 1 to 1 replacement if you damage your phone within the 24-month device warranty.

For the price, you probably can get a better device and more data for your money each month. However, the extended warranty and one-to-one swap coverage could be the deal breaker in the entry-level segment.

The NeXT M1 device will be available starting 3rd March, which is tomorrow. For more info, visit the Maxis NeXT website.

For the frequent traveller, this is probably the best deal of all. Maxis is offering a full year of unlimited roaming for just RM1. This is basically 365 days of MaxisONE World that usually costs RM38/day, so this is potentially a massive RM13,870 in value.

The roaming offer covers unlimited incoming and outgoing calls, SMS and 500MB of high-speed data per day. Once you’ve finished your 500MB quota, you can continue surfing with your domestic data from home.

MyCelcom Postpaid App is finally here for everyone

$

First it was the closed beta program for Android, then came the “unreleased” version that was unstable under most circumstances. Now Celcom has finally stepped up their game and officially released their postpaid app that you can download from Google Play Store.

You can now access your profile, track your calls, SMS and Internet usage, get add-ons and more through the app wherever you are.

After downloading the app, you should have instant access to your FIRST plan information and Celcom account profile, be able to track your usage for Internet, calls, roaming and even pay your bills.

If you’re a Celcom postpaid user, this app is going to help you keep track of your account. Just download it from Google Play Store. As for iPhone users, this app is not yet in the App Store, so you will have to wait for now.

In our own experience, not much has changed since beta and the app still doesn’t really work all that well. There are still some bugs in it and doesn’t seem polished for an app that has been officially released. Especially when the release has been delayed numerous times.

Have you downloaded it to your Android device? Tell us your experience.

webe introduces mobile business plans with free 1GB tethering

$

0

Webe is now entering the enterprise segment by introducing its business-centric mobile and broadband plans. At first glance, they are quite similar to its consumer offering but you do get a little extra.

webemobile biz

For mobile, the webemobile biz costs RM79/month and it could go as low as RM65/month if you take up at least 3 lines. We can assume that these prices are only valid for existing TM customers as the website mentions that it would cost RM139/month for non-TM broadband or webe customers.

The mobile plan comes with the usual unlimited calls, unlimited SMS and unlimited data but webe is also providing additional 1GB of free tethering. However, if you need more than 1GB per month, you’ll be out of luck as it is stated in their FAQ that you won’t be able to purchase additional data tethering passes. For those who are on the consumer grade postpaid plan at RM79/month, tethering is a chargeable add-on which costs RM6 for 2 hours.

webebroadband biz

For those who are looking for data-only LTE connectivity, webebroadband biz offers 30GB + 20GB of data at RM99/month. The extra 20GB is a limited time promo which they are offering until further notice. As a comparison, the consumer broadband plan costs RM59/month and it comes with 10GB + 20GB of data.

For more information, check out the webemobile biz and webebroadband biz pages.

The Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ is also available for pre-order through Digi. Similar to other pre-order promotion, you also get the same amount of freebies that are worth RM916.

The pre-order promo runs from 11th April until 13th April 2017 with stocks expected to be delivered to you beginning 4th May 2017. You get a choice of 3 different postpaid plans with a contract tenure of 24-months across the board.

When you look into their postpaid plans (Postpaid 78, Postpaid 108, Postpaid 138) for device contract, they are not as compelling as their on-going postpaid plans such as Digi Postpaid 80, Postpaid 110 or their latest Postpaid 150 Infinite. This is a similar situation with U Mobile’s Ultimate Device Plan.

The entry-level Postpaid 78 (RM78/month) plan gives you 12GB of data (6GB all-day + 6GB weekend), unlimited calls and 200 SMS while its Postpaid 108 comes with 18GB of data (9GB all-day + 9GB weekend), unlimited calls and 400 SMS. It’s highest Postpaid 138 (RM138/month) option includes 24GB of data (12GB all-day + 12GB weekend) with unlimited calls and SMS.

It interesting to point out that these plans are even more expensive than Maxis which is often regarded as the most expensive in town. As a comparison, MaxisONE 98 (RM98/month) comes with 20GB of data (10GB all-day + 10GB data weekend) while MaxisONE 128 (RM128/month) comes with 30GB of data (15GB all-day + 15GB weekend). Both MaxisONE plans also come with unlimited calls and SMS.

The bundled Galaxy S8/S8+ pricing on Digi are as follows (excluding 6% GST):

Galaxy S8

Galaxy S8+

During sign up, Digi also requires an additional upfront payment of RM360 (Postpaid 78), RM640 (Postpaid 108) or RM920 (Postpaid 138) which will be used to offset your future bills. If you don’t want to pay cash upfront, Digi is also offering 0% interest easy payment plans for both device and upfront payment via credit card in 24 months instalments.
