iPhone X Celcom

The iPhone X pre-order will be available in Malaysia starting this Friday, 17 November and it will be released officially on 24 November 2017. If you want to be among the first in Malaysia to get iPhone X on the big day itself, Celcom is offering midnight deliveries for pre-order customers.

Celcom will be revealing its contract pricing on 17 November and it is likely that they will bundle the iPhone X with their FIRST Gold Plus plans (RM98/month) and above.

To recap, the iPhone X is officially priced at RM5,149 for 64GB and RM5,899 for 256GB, and it comes in either Space Grey or Silver. Apart from normal delivery during working hours, Celcom is offering midnight iPhone X deliveries for selected areas where customers can receive their brand new unit between 12 AM to 3 AM.

Maxis used to offer midnight deliveries for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. However, they have stopped doing so for the latest iPhone 8 and so far there’s no indication if they are reintroducing such service for the latest iPhone X.

If you’re interested, you can register your interest here.

Maxis no longer offers the iPhone on Zerolution

Maxis iPhone Zerolution

The Maxis Zerolution program allows anyone to own a brand new smartphone with easy monthly instalments and RM0 upfront. On top of that, you can swap phones every 12 months hassle-free for an extra monthly fee.

Now it appears that Maxis has stopped offering iPhones on Zerolution and if you plan to get one from Maxis, you’ll need to take up a standard contract plan.

Maxis has updated their Zerolution iPhone page with the following message:

The Zerolution for iPhone promotional offer has ended. However, customers who have Zerolution for iPhone with Annual Upgrade may still upgrade their iPhone after 12 monthly installments.

So, if you’re currently on a Zerolution contract, you still can swap to a newer iPhone when you’ve reached 12 months into your tenure. The Zerolution program is still around but it is only for Android smartphones from Samsung, Huawei and OPPO. If you don’t plan on swapping phones each year, the standard contract plans are actually more worthwhile as the cost of ownership is significantly lower than Zerolution.

The Zerolution program was introduced in 2015 and it was available for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. If you’ve signed up for an iPhone 7 on Zerolution a year ago, you should be able to swap to the latest iPhone 8 very soon.

Are you a Zerolution customer with an iPhone 6s/7? Let us know what you think of the Zerolution program.

Thanks Edward Koh for the heads up!

Travelling overseas? Roam with U Mobile and leave all your roaming charge headaches behind

This post is brought to you by U Mobile.

Have you always avoided making and answering phone calls while travelling overseas? You’re not alone and most people are afraid of getting bill shocks after returning from their trips.

As mobile technology gets better over the years, using your phone for basic phone calls is still ridiculously expensive and often confusing to understand. Why must it be this way? To cut the clutter and to make phone calls worry free outside of Malaysia, U Mobile is offering flat roaming rates for voice call & SMS when you travel overseas.

Simpler Rates

Usually, before you travel, you’ll need to understand the different call rates that would apply in your destination. Making a phone call in the country you’re visiting is one rate and making calls back to Malaysia is at a different rate. That’s not all, there’s even a different rate just for answering calls. Who would remember all 3? To make matters worse, the rates are often complicated with random digits (e.g. RM3.30/min, RM5.80/min, RM6.99/min) that are almost impossible to remember.

U Mobile wants to take all that confusion away by offering just one flat rate for making and receiving calls and no matter which partner telco you connect to. The rates are rounded to an easy to remember figure from as low as RM1.50/minute that’s applicable to all networks. Instead of having different rate for each country, U Mobile is simplifying its roaming rates into 4 main zones to give you a peace of mind.

ZONE 1

U Mobile offers the lowest flat rates ever for call and SMS roaming to our neighbour country – Singapore. It would cost you just RM1.50/minute for making and receiving calls in Singapore. Even calls to Malaysia is charged at RM1.50/minute. Sending an SMS would cost you just RM0.50 each and receiving SMS is totally free of charge.

ZONE 2

If you travel mostly around Asia to destinations such as Thailand, Hong Kong and South Korea, U Mobile offers a flat RM3.00/minute rate for 11 countries that fall under Zone 2. So, if you’re traveling to these countries, just remember, it costs RM3.00/minute for receiving and making calls to both local and back to Malaysia. Texting while roaming in Zone 2 would cost you just RM1.00 per SMS. As always, receiving SMS is free wherever you are in the world.

ZONE 3

Travelling to Brunei, China, Myanmar and Vietnam? That falls under Zone 3 and you also get to enjoy the same flat rate of RM3.00/minute for receiving and making calls within the country or back to Malaysia. Texting is also the same as Zone 2 at RM1.00/SMS and receiving incoming message is still free of charge.

ZONE 4

Traditionally, it will cost you a bomb when you roam to more exotic destinations. Some could cost you double digits per minute just to call back to Malaysia. Whether you’re in Japan, Italy or U.K., you can call home at a flat rate of RM5.00/minute in Zone 4 countries. If you’re traveling to the countries listed under Zone 4, it would cost you the same RM5.00/minute rate for receiving and making domestic phone calls, while SMS costs RM1.00 each to send and receiving is still free of charge.

Below is the list of countries in each respective zone:

Don’t bother with confusing roaming codes. Activate before you fly-off and you’re good to go!

The best part about U Mobile’s roaming service is there are no messy *123* pre-fix codes required to enjoy lower rates. You don’t have to re-enter a phone number or edit your current phone book details. Just call like you normally do, and you can be assured of the lowest roaming rates when you travel.

Activating the roaming service is super easy! If you’re an existing subscriber of at least 6 months, you can simply activate roaming via SelfCare or through the MyUMobile App. Alternatively, you can activate by dialing *118*6# on your phone dialler or send an SMS “ON ROAMIDD” to 28118. If you need help, you can call up U Mobile’s customer care hotline at 1318.

U Mobile, the perfect travel companion

U Mobile wants to make your travels as smooth as possible. With these simplified and low flat rates, making and receiving phone calls is less scary than you think. So, the next time you’re getting an important phone call while overseas, you can answer it with greater peace of mind and most importantly, without burning your wallet.

MaxisONE Plan upgraded

Maxis has always been considered the most premium telco in Malaysia. While they have upgraded their postpaid plans in the past, other players in the market are getting more competitive by offering more data with some offering unlimited quota for less.

After almost a year since their last revamp, Maxis is finally giving its MaxisONE plans a well deserved update. On top of that, they have also removed a barrier which now enables you to fully utilise your monthly quota freely.

Effective today, all MaxisONE Plans are now getting 10GB extra across the board and it is applicable to existing MaxisONE Plan subscribers. Another good news is they have finally removed the 4G Weekend data split for most of its plans. So if you’re on MaxisONE Plan 128, you’ll be getting 40GB of data which you can use all day whether you’re on 4G or 3G.

Take note that the all-day data is only given by default for MaxisONE Plan 128 and above. If you’re on MaxisONE 98, you’ll be getting 15GB all-day + 15GB 4G weekend (previously 10GB all-day + 10GB 4G weekend). However, you do get the option to upgrade your plan to 30GB for all-day use at an extra RM10/month. So that’s RM108/month in total to enjoy 30GB data at all times.

The supplementary lines on MaxisONE Share remains unchanged. At RM48/month, it still comes with 5GB of data that goes into the SharePool and another 5GB for 4G Weekend use. All MaxisONE plans still come with unlimited calls and SMS to all networks in Malaysia.

Here’s a recap on the upgrade:

MaxisONE 98: 20GB (10GB + 10GB weekend) —> 30GB (15GB + 15GB weekend)
MaxisONE 128: 30GB (15GB + 15GB weekend) —> 40GB all-day
MaxisONE 158: 40GB (20GB + 20GB weekend) —> 50GB all-day
MaxisONE 188: 50GB (25GB + 25GB weekend) —> 60GB all-day

Digi is giving a post-Christmas present to its subscriber by offering 1GB of free data. To redeem this, you would need to install or update to the latest myDigi app which is available for both iOS and Google Play.

Webe to end its current unlimited plan in January 2018?

Webe Unlimited Plan offer coming to an end?

Webe is one of the youngest mobile networks in Malaysia that’s backed by TM. It was first launched in April 2016 with full commercial services running in September 2016. Now it appears that its unlimited RM79/month postpaid plan might come to an end by 12 January 2018, or is it?

If you check on Webe’s website and FAQ, it indicates that the plan will be open for subscription until 12th January 2018. Will Webe stop acquiring new subscribers? We highly doubt it as we’ve seen Webe repeating its “last-call” shoutout for over a year. After all, the RM79/month plan has always been a promo and there’s definitely an end to it eventually.

Since its introduction, the same “time-limited” RM79/month plan (Originally RM199) have been extended again, again and over again. So come 12 January 2018, we won’t be surprised if it gets another round of extension and it’s likely the same story with its webebroadband plan. For existing users, they can continue to enjoy the same postpaid plan while enjoying the same perks and discounts that they are entitled to.

Another possibility is that Webe could be introducing newer plans to replace its existing offering. We certainly hope this is the case since its current plans are due for a revamp.

When the Webe first came out, the idea of having everything unlimited for RM79/month was appealing but unfortunately, many were not happy with the idea of having to pay extra to use their smartphones as a hotspot. Eventually, they added 10GB of free hotspot data but it isn’t as attractive anymore since other telcos have responded with their own alternatives.

At RM80/month, you can get 20GB of high-speed data and unlimited calls from Digi and Celcom, which is more than enough for most average users. Being an established player, both Digi and Celcom also has a better 4G LTE network when compared to Webe.

Furthermore, you can also get unlimited plans (with limited tethering) for RM100 or less from Digi and U Mobile.

In case you’re wondering, the telco is still called Webe and not UniFi as announced a few months ago. It is interesting that their FAQ now includes the following:

8. Is webe changing its name?
Not at all! We are still TM Group’s Centre of Excellence for Mobility – webe and we are still here to provide you never-ending data, voice, SMS and so much more!

Looks like Webe’s rebranding exercise has taken a U-turn but strangely, its network name is still showing “UniFi”. What do you guys think? Should webe come out with newer plans for 2018? Let us know in the comments below.

Last call: webe actually did it

$
0
0

After a number of “last calls”, webe has finally closed its postpaid plan for new registrations. If you we’re planning to get webe’s never-ending data, calls and SMS plan, the last day to signup was 12 January 2018.

Existing webemobile and webebroadband customers can continue to enjoy their current plan with no changes on pricing. The webemobile unlimited plan was going for RM79/month, while the webebroadband plan costs RM59/month with 20GB of data.

So what’s next for webe? According to their website, a new mobile plan will be introduced very soon. It doesn’t say when it will be available but you can register your interest to be among the first to know.

In case you missed it, webe was supposed to be rebranded to unifi but strangely, they have maintained their current name until today. We are guessing that their upcoming postpaid plan might be introduced under the unifi brand.

A few days ago, TM had announced that its HyppTV and HyppTV Everywhere will be rebranded to unifi TV and unifi playTV respectively. The name change took effect starting yesterday and it’s already reflected on the HyppTV Everywhere app.

U Mobile P79

U Mobile has announced its new Unlimited HERO P79 postpaid plan which replaces its previous Unlimited HERO P78 plan. It packs “Unlimited” features and if you love music, it also comes with free Spotify Premium.

Unlike its previous P78 plan with unlimited data that’s capped at 5Mbps, this new P79 plan comes with 20GB of high-speed data. For those who travel, the P79 plan comes with 1GB of Roam-Onz which you can use in 12 countries. As a comparison, the previous P79 plan gives you 5GB of Roam-Onz.

On top of that, it still comes with unlimited calls to all networks, unlimited music streaming with Music-Onz and unlimited video streaming via Video-Onz. The plan also comes with free data for WhatsApp, WeChat and Waze. Strangely App-Onz, which offers unlimited data for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram isn’t listed for this plan.

For the free Spotify Premium offer, U Mobile is offering 6 months of subscription and it is only valid if you subscribe to the plan by 31 March 2018.

To redeem your free subscription, you would need to access this page while connected to mobile data and then sign up or login to your existing Spotify account. After the 6 months is up, you will be billed for the full Spotify Premium subscription.

There’s also the option to share your 20GB of data with other users with Share 20 supplementary lines. It costs RM20 per line each month and it comes with 30 minutes of free calls within the U Mobile network. Below is a comparison with other U Mobile postpaid plans above RM50/month.

Malaysia is getting a new telco player at the end of this month

UPDATE: Yoodo is now official.

If you’re looking for more options in the telco space, there’s a new player in town. It isn’t clear if they are offering a postpaid or a prepaid plan, but it promises something different from the usual traditional plans.

What’s interesting is its promise to be a telco that’s based on free choice, flexibility and the power of the people. The official invite also mentions the following:

Something exciting is happening in Malaysia’s telco industry. A brand new telco player is out to empower users simply because they believe #youdoitbetter!

When we did a search for the hashtag, we found these tweets:

Don't you just wish everything in life was as customisable? You know #youdoitbetter. Get ready for change 29.1.18. pic.twitter.com/moMPEINf5x

— Yoodo (@yoodoMY) January 20, 2018

Time to start getting what you want. Because #youdoitbetter. Coming to you 29.1.18. pic.twitter.com/sI5h9WsJMW

— Yoodo (@yoodoMY) January 16, 2018

The new provider is called Yoodo and they are focusing a lot on customisation based on the two videos they have released so far. This could be similar to tapp by Digi which allows you to design your own plan according to your own preference.

The launch event for this new telco brand is taking place on 30 January but we expect more details to be revealed earlier on 29 January.

UPDATE: Yoodo plan and add-ons revealed

Ahead of its official launch, the Yoodo’s customisable plan has been revealed thru a direct link here.

As expected, it’s a mobile plan where you can customise exactly how much data, calls and SMS you need each month. For the data plans, the minimum option is 2GB at RM20/month and it increases in increments of 5GB. 5GB costs RM30/month and 10GB costs RM50/month, which is quite similar to Xpax.

Calls will cost you from RM5/month for 50 minutes of calls while SMS starts from RM3/month for 50 SMS. Of course, the cost per unit will be cheaper if you add more.

The bare minimum you can select is RM3/month for SMS and if you want to go all out, it will cost you RM182/month. The maxed out option comes with 100GB of data, 2000 minutes of calls and 2000 SMS.

On top of that, yoodo offers optional add-ons such as 5GB of Facebook or Instagram data for RM10/month and 10GB of YouTube for RM20/month. For new registration, their mobile number uses the 011 prefix. From the same link above, you can request for a free SIM but we are not sure if they would process it since the website and app isn’t live at the moment.

The official website is inaccessible at the moment, however, according to its MYNIC records, yoodo.com.my is registered under “CELCOM AXIATA BERHAD”. This confirms that Yoodo is a sub-brand under Celcom.

Thanks Celcomaxiata for the tip!

Malaysia new Telco plan

This is a sponsored post

Consumers are getting spoilt for choice when it comes to their mobile plan. Telcos are offering even more data and it’s common to see unlimited plans at attainable prices. While it’s tempting to jump on a plan that gives you more data for less, have you ever wondered if you’re paying more than what you should?

You could be paying for what you don’t need

10GB, 20GB, 30GB or unlimited? There’s just so much data to go around and the cost per GB is lower if you commit to a higher plan. If you look at the fine details, some plans often split their data quota by application, time or even network type. For example, some would give you 999GB for Facebook, 10GB for YouTube and 10GB for Instagram, but do you actually use that much for a single app?

As apps are driving the most usage on a smartphone, people are making less calls and SMS than before. There are many plans out there that offer unlimited voice calls and SMS but do you make more than 300 minutes of voice calls each month? Even if it is marketed as free, you’re actually paying for it.

Why must you pay RM30 a month?

For prepaid, it’s always a norm to top up RM30 a month to keep your line active and you must be wondering, why is this still a thing? If you’re travelling overseas for two weeks or more, it doesn’t make sense to pay for a full month. You deserve to pay less for services you don’t need.

What if you can design your own plan?

The mobile plans we have today are designed by telcos to cater to as many people as possible. We all know that one size doesn’t fit all and everyone has their own usage habits. Some might use more data while others need more voice calls. Don’t you wish you can pay less if you can remove the features that you don’t need? Why must monthly data plans cost a lot if all you use is 1GB a month?

An ideal plan would be one that can adapt to you. Imagine being able to customise your own plan with your desired amount of GB of data, voice calls and SMS with full flexibility.

It’s time to start getting what you really want. Because #youdoitbetter. Mark your calendars on 29 January 2018.

Yoodo Malaysia

After a couple of teasers, Yoodo is finally official. As we are seeing new telco brands coming into the marketplace such as ookyo, tapp and Unifi Mobile, here comes a new player called Yoodo.

The brand believes that “you” as the consumer can do things better and that’s why they are offering a fully customisable mobile plan.

Unlike normal plans that come with its preset amount of data and features, Yoodo lets you pick exactly how much you need for data, calls and SMS each month. If you’re not happy with your current selection, Yoodo gives you the freedom to change your plan at any time.

As seen earlier, you get to design your own plan by adjusting a couple of sliders. The cheapest option you can get is RM3/month that comes with 50 SMS and it goes up to RM222/month with 100GB of data, 5GB of Facebook, 10GB YouTube, 5GB Instagram, 2,000 minutes of calls and 2,000 SMS.

For more a more realistic selection, you can get 5GB at RM30/month, 10GB at RM50/month and 20GB at RM70/month. There are also add-ons such as 5GB Facebook or Instagram at RM10/month each or 10GB of YouTube at RM20/month.

Being a digital-focused telco offerring, the signup process and customer service are done exclusively through the app. You can pick a new 011 mobile number or port-in to Yoodo from your existing telco. To get started, the official app is now available on both Android and iOS.

Unlike tapp and ookyo, Yoodo is compatible with the iPhone and there’s no VPN required. Yoodo will deliver your SIM for free within 1-3 working days. There’s even an Express Delivery option via GoGet which is available from Monday-Friday between 8am-4pm in the Klang Valley. In terms of payment, it appears that they only accept credit/debit card for now.

Yoodo operates on Celcom’s 4G network and you can use your data freely for hotspot/tethering at no extra charge. For those who travel a lot, Yoodo even offers a Roam Like Home add-on. For only RM10/day, you can use your existing data, calls and SMS in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Laos, and Brunei.

This post is brought to you by Yoodo.

If you hate your current mobile plan, there’s a new player in town. Yoodo is Malaysia’s first fully customisable mobile plan that finally puts the freedom of choice at your fingertips. It’s also fully digital, allowing you to take full control of your plan at any time through an app.

Is Yoodo the plan for you? Here are 7 reasons why you should make the switch.

Make your plan yours

With Yoodo, you truly call the shots. Instead of picking from a preset mobile plan options dictated by a telco, you decide on how much data, calls and SMS you need each month. This means you will pay exactly for what you need.

Just need data? You can slide how many GBs you need each month or even add-on additional data packs from as little as RM10/month for 5GB of Facebook or Instagram.

Need more calls and less data in the following month? You can always change your selection for next subscription. Believe it or not, you can even subscribe a bare minimum of RM3/month with 50 SMS.

If suddenly you need to make calls or run out of data, you can always add-on with its Boost plans. Everything is managed through the app and you can get what you need whenever you need it without any complicated codes or SMS.

Don’t worry about top-ups

Don’t you hate it when your line is invalid when you forgot to top up? Those days are over as there’s no top up tickets and reload codes to worry about with Yoodo. It isn’t exactly postpaid or prepaid but it’s a subscription service that automatically renews itself. All you need is your credit or debit card, and that’s it. If you’re a Malaysian citizen, you’re also entitled to get a rebate on GST. This means you’re actually paying less than the displayed price.

With Yoodo, there’s less hassle and you have more time for you to do the things you love.

No Pay Per Use charges – No surprises!

One of the biggest frustrations is losing your credit over something you didn’t intend to use. You’ve probably depleted your prepaid account due to accidental charges or roaming usage. That is no longer the case with Yoodo as there are no Pay Per Use (PPU) charges.

Anything that’s chargeable must be purchased upfront and that includes voice calls and even IDD. The same goes for roaming as well and you can’t use any data, calls or SMS overseas unless you have activated a roaming pass. So, don’t panic if you have forgotten to switch off “Data Roaming” the next time you travel overseas.

Take all of your data with you when you travel

Traveling is a good way to see the world and in a connected world, we rely on our smartphones for directions, food recommendations and tips of what to do. With Yoodo, you can Roam like Home in 12 countries. At just RM10/day, you can access all of your data as if you’re still in Malaysia. So why settle for just 500MB per day? If you have 10GB of data at home, it’s time to take it with you.

For voice calls, the Roam Like Home pass will allow you to use your IDD pack to receive or make calls back to Malaysia.

Works with most phones. No extra app or VPN required

Yoodo is compatible with both Android and iPhone, and there are no additional app or VPN settings required. While Yoodo is fully digital, it works like any regular 3G/4G SIM. After activating the SIM using the mobile app, you can start using Yoodo almost immediately after you pop-in the SIM card. It can’t get any easier than this.

Yoodo is 100% digital

Yoodo is 100% digital from the moment you request the SIM, to the management of your phone and even customer service. There are no on ground dealers or customer service centres, so everything is managed from a single Yoodo app. Not only you can check your balance in real time, you can also get assistance from Yoodo’s team as well as the Yoodo community on the same app.

Don’t queue! Your new Yoodo SIM comes to you for free

Yoodo is completely free to sign up and you can either choose a new number or port-in from your current telco. Yoodo will ship your SIM pack for free which takes about 1-3- working days. If you want it faster, Klang Valley residents can pick the express option at RM15 where you can get your SIM card within 2 hours.

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to switch to Yoodo, because you do it better. To get started, just download the app on Google Play Store or Apple AppStore. For more info, visit Yoodo.com.my.

Hotlink debuts their new Postpaid Flex plan today, and starting from just RM30 a month, you can have a postpaid plan that comes with all the benefits of a prepaid one.

This is essentially a first from Hotlink, where they offer a postpaid product so you get billed like a Maxis customer.

Starting from RM30, users get unlimited calls and SMSes to all networks, on top of 1GB high-speed data. The idea here is that you can scale up your plan based on your usage, like if you need additional data but you can customise it at any time via the app. There’s also an array of Internet passes and unlimited app bundles as well, starting from RM5 a month for chat apps, and RM10 for unlimited social and music respectively.

For the price, it’s appealing for those who need unlimited calls and SMS with casual data use. If you need more data, you can get more with a prepaid Hotlink plan.

However, do bear in mind that if you consume your allotted data, you will be throttled down to basic internet speeds. But if you’re the sort that need more in the way of “unlimited” data, ookyo also has a plan that starts from RM 30/month.

Should you be interested in signing up you can visit any Hotlink dealers, Maxis Centers nationwide or click here.
