Digi has introduced a new postpaid plan that offers 6GB of data for as low as RM28/month for differently-abled customers. This is in line with its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #10, which is to reduce inequalities as they continue to provide affordable plans for all customers across Malaysia.
Customers that have a valid OKU (Persons with Disabilities) card can enjoy a lifetime RM10 discount when they sign up for any Digi postpaid plan. All plans come with unlimited voice calls to all networks and this has been made available for PWD customers since 2012.
To subscribe, customers can sign up at any Digi Store with their original NRIC and OKU card. Third party registrations by family members and legal guardians are also permitted by providing the original NRIC or birth certificate, along with the original OKU card of the customer plus proof of legal guardianship of the person that’s registering.
According to Digi’s Head of Sustainability, Philip Ling, Mobile connectivity plans play an important role in encouraging social participation for the differently-abled, and they will continue to bring better, more personalised offers and related-inclusion programs for the PWD community. Digi also continues to work on tailoring its services to a wide range of customers at its touchpoints and community programs. In Digi Stores, there are express lanes and geek bar support that are prioritised for PWDs, senior citizens and pregnant women.
Maxis wants to be more inclusive to all Malaysians and they now offer a special lifetime rebate for Persons with Disabilities (OKU). OKU customers can get RM10/month off when they sign up for a Hotlink Postpaid Flex plan that offers unlimited calls and SMS.
With this offering, OKU customers can enjoy 5GB of data with unlimited calls and SMS for only RM30/month. Customers can sign up at any Maxis Centre or Maxis Exclusive Partner and present their original IC and OKU card. Existing OKU customers that are already on the Hotlink Postpaid Flex plan are also eligible for the rebate and may proceed to apply at any Maxis Centre and Exclusive Partner stores.
To make it easier for OKU customers to sign up, Maxis says that they are always ready to prioritise and assist customers with special needs.
The Hotlink Postpaid plan also offers additional unlimited add-ons which include unlimited social and unlimited music at RM10/month each. There’s also an unlimited chat add-on for RM5/month. You can learn more from their FAQ here.
Celcom has announced its initiative to empower its new and existing differently abled customers (OKU). In addition to providing priority service at all Celcom bluecube outlets and offering a lifetime rebate, the blue telco is taking a step further by offering home visitations as well.
If a potential or existing OKU customer requires further assistance on location, they can request for a Celcom customer service representative to come to their home. This can be arranged by calling in at 1111 or 019-601 1111. Alternatively, customers can also request via Celcom’s website and social media platforms.
This home visitation service is also applicable to OKU customers that intend to register a new plan with Celcom. Apart from home visitation, OKU customers are also allowed to register or amend their existing plans via a third party as well. This can be a friend or family member, and Celcom would require an authorisation letter, certified disability card (OKU card) and a copy of the representative and customer’s NRIC.
For OKU customers that visit Celcom’s bluecube outlets, they can enjoy immediate priority or next available service by a customer service representative upon identification. Service can be rendered at designated areas within Celcom bluecube that are suited to the customers’ preference.
According to Celcom, 39 bluecube outlets are currently wheelchair accessible and they are planning to increase wheelchair accessibility at more locations. They also added that differently abled customers will be personally attended by any bluecube staff at any point near a Celcom bluecube outlet.
According to Celcom’s CEO, Idham Nawawi, the telco is honoured to do its part following its Consumer First Pledge that prioritises complaint resolution and customer service quality. He added that Celcom assures inclusivity to its differently abled customers by empowering them with technology, made accessible with its exclusive priority services.
Similar to other telcos, Celcom also offers RM10 lifetime monthly rebate on Celcom Mobile Postpaid, Celcom Home Wireless and Celcom Xpax Postpaid plans for all OKU customers. You can learn more from Celcom’s Empower page.

Maxis is giving its Hotlink Postpaid Flex plan an upgrade with extra data for YouTube usage. You can now get unlimited calls, SMS and 20GB worth of data for RM60/month.
As usual, all plans come with unlimited calls and SMS to all networks. For the RM40/month Flex plan, Hotlink is offering 5GB of data and 3GB of YouTube data. For the highest RM60/month Flex Plus option, they are offering 10GB of data and 10GB for YouTube.
The Flex Basic Plan at RM30/month remains unchanged. It still comes with 1GB of data along with unlimited calls and SMS. There are also optional add-ons that provide unlimited quota for selected apps. You can subscribe to unlimited social or unlimited music at RM10/month each or unlimited chat for RM5/month.
Celcom has just announced a new postpaid Xpax plan that places a focus on flexibility, with prices for “XPax Lite” plans starting from RM28. At the launch earlier today, Celcom CEO Idham Nawawi, along with Roy Ong, Chief Product and Innovation Officer, explained that XP Lite is essentially the cheapest postpaid plan to get onto “the best 4G network in Malaysia”.
For RM28/month, customers will get 1GB of internet, along with unlimited calls. An additional 7GB of internet will cost RM10 (M Pass), while the L Pass gives customers an additional 14GB of internet for RM 30. For the M Pass, an extra 4GB of internet is given, along with 3GB of Video Walla, while L Pass subscribers will get 11GB of additional internet along with 3GB of Video Walla.
In a move to reward brand loyalty, Celcom will be giving customers who continuously subscribe to the L or M Passes for 6 months a free 1-hour period of unlimited internet everyday—the Ultra Hour Pass—along with 1GB of Video Walla. Do note that the Xpax Lite plans are not tied to any contracts, with customers free to come and go as they please.
For subscribers of the L Pass, Celcom will be bundling in an Oppo A1K smartphone (while stocks lasts), with the option to choose another smartphone such as the Nubia Red Magic 3, Vivo y17, Vivo Y19C, and Oppo A5 for prices starting at RM99.
According Roy Ong, the XP Lite plan is essentially a “pick and mix” plan that offers a degree of flexibility:
“Size up your XP Lite mobile plan and enjoy more internet with additional perks such as access to unlimited high-speed data and device bundles at your own convenience.”
Celcom CEO Idham Nawawi also said that the appeal for Xpax Lite lies in a relatively affordable entry-point into “the best 4G network in Malaysia”. Of course, Celcom was recently ranked at No. 1 for 4G Availability and Upload Speed Experience in Malaysia by Opensignal. In fact, we recently spoke to Opensignal CEO, Brendan Gill, on mobile connectivity in Malaysia, which you can view here.
The Xpax Lite plan is available from the 19th of September, 2019. You can find out more about the plan here.
After introducing a dedicated postpaid plan and a RM10 rebate for persons with disabilities (PWDs), Digi has announced a similar lifetime privilege for senior citizens. All registered Digi postpaid customers aged 60 years and above can enjoy a RM10 rebate on Digi’s postpaid plans that start from RM28/month for 6GB of data.
According to Digi, this initiative is part of Digi’s Yellow Heart commitment to empowering more Malaysians with easy connectivity to what matters most. Starting today, eligible customers will receive a notification via the MyDigi app to activate the RM10 rebate offer. This can be redeemed via the “Box of Surprise” section on the MyDigi app. Once redeemed, the rebate will be reflected automatically in the subsequent month’s bill. The yellow telco also added that this lifetime rebate will be sent to other Digi customers as they reach the age requirement of 60 years old.
Digi has carried a number of outreach initiatives under its Yellow Heart programme over the years to help more Malaysians develop digital competencies and learn how to keep safe on the internet. Apart from introducing a rebate on postpaid subscriptions, Digi has also taken steps to ensure priority customer service in its stores for persons with disabilities (PWDs), seniors and pregnant women. These express lanes and personalised support are available in all 30 Digi Stores nationwide.
For more info, you can check out Digi’s Yellow Heart page.
Early this year, Yes has introduced its Konfem Unlimited postpaid plan that offers unlimited data from RM49/month. The 4G LTE telco has recently revealed that a number of users were found abusing its unlimited service and as a result, they are taking proactive steps to manage allocated bandwidth to limit excessive usage.
According to the telco, the Konfem Unlimited Plan is designed to offer the best unlimited mobile experience but they have discovered unfair and non-legitimate usage by a few subscribers which violated their terms and condition of use. This includes using P2P applications and non-mobile usage.
As expected, some were not too happy about the announcement and have accused Yes for not honouring its “unlimited” promise. Some even alleged that Yes has implemented a daily cap of 2GB.
To recap, the Konfem Unlimited Plan comes in three unlimited options that offer different speed caps. The base RM49/month plan has a speed cap of 5Mbps while the RM79/month option lets you enjoy faster speeds of up to 7Mbps. The highest RM99/month lets you enjoy unlimited data with no speed caps. You can get extra monthly rebates if you sign up for the plan with a 12-month contract.
Unlike most typical postpaid offering, the Konfem Unlimited plans do not come with hotspot or tethering. This was mentioned on the product page as well as their FAQ.
Bandwidth management aimed at curbing errant and unfair abusers
We’ve reached out to Yes for clarification and they told us that a segment of their highest network abusers can consume over 600GB of data on a monthly basis. According to the telco, this excessive consumption is mathematically impossible on a mobile device unless engaging in violation of the terms and conditions by using it for P2P or for non-mobile device usage. In some instances, some users were found to consume over 100GB in a single day.
Yes highlights that they do not impose Fair Usage Policy across the board and the proactive bandwidth management is only aimed at curbing errant, unfair and non-legitimate usage by a few subscribers. The increase of P2P usage and for non-mobile purposes compromises the experience for the vast majority of their subscribers.
When we asked Yes if they are implementing a daily cap, they told us that this isn’t true. The telco says they are committed to providing the best unlimited mobile data experience while having a sustainable value for their subscribers year on year.

Meanwhile, Celcom VirtuExt works like a virtual PABX system that manages your customer calls from one main number. It features extension calls, call transfer, IVR recording and call queueing without requiring any expensive upfront investment.
The VirtuExt system can direct customer calls to multiple mobile numbers which enables your employees to be reachable in any location. According to Celcom, the setup can be done instantly and it is managed from a web browser.
The Oppo Reno 2 is officially priced at RM2,299 but you can own it easier on the Digi PhoneFreedom 365 instalment plan. On Digi’s Postpaid Family offering, you can get three devices for only RM204/month. Alternatively, you can get it for as little as RM28/month for a single unit.
Digi Postpaid Family
Digi Postpaid family allows you to add supplementary lines at RM38/month per line. Instead of sharing quota, each member will get to enjoy the same amount of mobile data as well as unlimited calls as the principal line. The Digi Postpaid Family offering for the Oppo Reno 2 is applicable when you sign up for Postpaid 120 plan and above.
On the highest Postpaid 190, the Reno 2 will cost you RM28/month for the principal line and RM176/month (RM88 each) for the two extra supplementary lines. In total, you’ll be paying RM204/month for the device and RM231/month for the postpaid service. As usual, the devices on instalment are tied with a 24-month contract.
Digi individual postpaid
If you’re just getting the Oppo Reno 2 for yourself, you can et the device for RM158/month all-in (excluding tax). On the lowest commitment plan, the Reno 2 is going for RM68/month on Digi Freedom 365 instalment program when you sign up for Digi Postpaid 80 + GBoost (RM10/month extra).
If you need more data, the Reno 2 is offered for RM28/month on the highest Postpaid 190 plan. The instalment plan is also tied with a 24-month contract.
To recap, the Oppo Reno 2 is a premium mid-range smartphone that comes with a quad-camera setup. It features a 6.5″ Full HD+ AMOLED display and it runs on a Snapdragon 730G processor. The device packs 8GB RAM + 256GB of storage which is expandable via microSD.
For taking pictures, it has a 48MP f/1.7 main camera, a 13MP f/2.4 telephoto camera with 2X optical zoom, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera along with a 2MP mono lens for portrait mode. If you need to take a selfie, the Reno 2 comes with an iconic shark-fin pop-up camera that has a 16MP f/2.0 selfie shooter. Powering the device is a large 4,000mAh battery that supports 20W VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 via USB-C.
Last week, several Celcom customers have received an SMS that Free Video Walla is no longer be offered from 1st November 2019. This is a complimentary data quota that allows you to stream video content from YouTube, Netflix and more. As expected, many were pissed and now they would need to pay extra if they wish to enjoy Video Walla. So what happened here?
According to Celcom, the Free Video Walla quota was offered as a promo and it is only valid for the first 12 months. If you’re on the lower Gold (RM80/month) and Gold Plus (RM98/month) plans, you’ll have to pay RM1 for 1GB/day, RM7 for 10GB/week or RM20 for 15GB/month.
Celcom has a specific T&C for Free Video Walla promo that commenced from 19th October 2017. For FIRST Gold postpaid, they are giving 30GB of Video Walla, while the other three higher plans come with 100GB of Super Video Walla under the promo.
The 12-month duration for Free Video Walla was communicated clearly during the initial announcement and you can read our post about it here.
For those on Gold Supreme (RM128/month) and Platinum (RM148/month) plans, you still get Free Video Walla but at a reduced monthly quota of 25GB and 30GB respectively. For Platinum Plus, you still get 100GB Video Walla as part of its original plan.
So what went wrong?
So if it does come with a 12-month duration, why some customers felt like they’re getting the short end of the stick? If we look at Celcom’s redesigned website, there’s no clear indication that the Free Video Walla is going to be a time-limited promo. On the postpaid page, there’s no asterisk or symbols to indicate there are other terms and conditions apply.
Even if you go into the specific postpaid plan, it mentions FREE 100GB Super Video Walla for the Gold Supreme plan without indicating a 12-month period. If you click on the FAQ for Gold Supreme plan, it states the original base quota of 25GB while the lower Gold Plus has no mention of Video Walla it under the FAQ.
What’s interesting is that some postpaid users have enjoyed the free Video Walla quota beyond 12 months in their subscription. It looks like Celcom has forgotten to enforce the expiry for existing customers, so they had decided to put an abrupt end on 1st November 2019.
To avoid such situations, Celcom should put the 12-month term upfront in all channels including its website. At the very least, they should add an asterisk next to its Free Video Walla mention instead of expecting users to dig through their Video Walla-specific T&C.
Since Celcom is still offering the 100GB Super Video Walla for new customers (Gold Plus and above), perhaps, one solution is to cancel and resign up for the plan to reset the Free Video Walla offer. To make it easier, Celcom could consider renewing the offer for customers with good payment history.
Celcom is among 7 telcos in Malaysia that have recently signed a pledge to provide greater transparency to consumers. The General Consumer Code will be tightened in the area of advertising to avoid confusion among customers. This means all terms, conditions and contracts of telco services must be refined and communicated clearly so that consumer rights are protected.
Are you affected by this change? Let us know in the comments below.
Celcom offers one of the best value for money postpaid plans with its Free Video Walla offering. If you sign up for its Celcom Gold Plus (RM98/month) and above, the plan comes with extra 100GB of Super Video Walla. Unfortunately, it appears that many subscribers are not aware that it is a time-limited promo as it isn’t clearly stated on its website.
In case you didn’t know, Video Walla is a special video streaming quota which you can use on 15 platforms including YouTube, Netflix, Viu, iFlix and Astro Go. When the new postpaid and family plans were introduced in the past year, Video Walla was clearly offered for the first 12 months for new subscribers. On the previous website design, the 12-month term was indicated on the postpaid plan table as shown in an old screenshot below:
If you check out Celcom’s current website, the postpaid plan page states that there’s free 30GB of Video Walla for its Gold Postpaid Plan and 100GB Super Video Walla for Gold Plus, Gold Supreme, Platinum and Platinum Plus.
As seen above, the Free Video Walla offering is listed like a perpetual benefit similar to the normal data quota and unlimited calls. There’s no attached asterisk or symbols to indicate that Free Video Walla is a promo deal. It’s also the same situation for its family plans that come with 1TB of shareable video walla.
The issue here is that Celcom is not being very transparent and the only way to know that there’s a 12-month term is by digging through a specific FAQ and T&C. With Video Walla being a key highlight for the postpaid plan, Celcom should be more upfront about it by stating it on the product pages itself.
This tactic of burying important terms under the terms & conditions is the reason why consumers don’t trust telcos when it comes to marketing messages. Why hide something that was previously communicated clearly?
Amin had recently ported his primary and family lines from Maxis to Celcom, and he also wasn’t aware that there’s a 12-month time period for the 1TB Video Walla promo. He did his research online and nobody at the Celcom outlet had explained to him that the free video data is only applicable for the first 12 months.
Celcom needs to be more transparent
If Celcom can highlight its current online rebate promo by stating RM10 x 6 months and RM10 x 12 months on the postpaid table, there’s no reason why they can’t do the same for Video Walla. We hope that Celcom will update their materials properly as this can be very misleading for potential customers. At the moment, you can find a barrage of complaints on Twitter when the telco abruptly discontinued video walla for some existing users.
As mentioned earlier, if the promo is still available for new signups, why not extend it for loyal users? Or at least, make it easier for existing users with good payment history to extend their Free Video Walla benefit. If you’re an existing Celcom customer, you could probably “renew” your Video Walla offer by switching to prepaid and then switching back again to Celcom postpaid as a “new” subscriber. Of course, this is only possible if you don’t have any existing contract.
TM is now having a promo for its Unifi Mobile postpaid plan. From now until 31st December 2019, you can get their unlimited Unifi Mobile 99 postpaid plan for only RM59/month.
To enjoy this discounted plan, you would need to get it with a 12-month contract. The lower subscription fee for the first 12 months translates to a total savings of RM480. You can sign up online and they will deliver the SIM card to you for free.
Although mobile data is unlimited, the plan only comes with 10GB of LTE data for hotspot. If you need more, you can add 500MB for RM8 or 1GB for RM15. According to the FAQ, the plan is available for everyone including non-Malaysians aged 18 and above, but they don’t allow a plan change for existing Unifi Mobile subscribers.
During registration, a RM100 upfront payment is required and this will be used to offset your bill. If you’re porting your existing number to Unifi, the upfront payment will be waived.
If you’re an existing Celcom Postpaid customer that no longer enjoy Free Video Walla, here’s some good news. It appears that the blue telco is extending the free Video Walla offer until the end of the year.
Celcom has just pushed an SMS to eligible subscribers and here’s a copy of the message:
RM0 GOOD NEWS! Extra Video Walla GB just for you to binge on your favourite series and movies on Netflix, iflix, YouTube and more until 31/12/2019. Exclusively for Celcom loyal customers. Stay tuned as more interesting offers are coming your way very soon! To check your internet balance, log in to Celcom Life App http://bit.ly/2MmpTvv_CelcomLifeApp . Sincerely, Team Celcom
If you’re on Celcom Gold, you should be getting 30GB of Free Video Walla while the higher Gold Plus plan and above will be given 100GB of Free Video Walla. According to the text message, this extended data is only available until 31st December 2019. You can check your Video Walla quota via the Celcom Life App.
To recap, Video Walla is a data add-on for video streaming. It supports a variety of platforms which include YouTube, iflix, Astro GO, dimsum, Alt Balaji, Muslim Kids TV, YuppTV, Viu, Njoi Now, Eros Now, Netflix, Klik Film, NDTV and Smule. If purchased separately, the add-on costs RM1 for 1GB/day of data, RM7 for 10GB/week of data and RM20 with 15GB/month of data.
Celcom has introduced a Roam Like Home feature which allows you to utilise your home data quota while you’re roaming overseas. It sounds like Yoodo’s offering but you can enjoy this feature at no extra charge. With Roam like Home, you can stay connected with high-speed connectivity even after your roaming quota is finished.
The Roam Like Home feature is applicable to Celcom postpaid customers on Gold Plan (RM80/month) and above. Do note that it isn’t offered at all roaming destinations as it is currently limited to 12 countries namely Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
At the moment, Celcom has three roaming plan options. There’s a 1-day pass with 500MB quota at RM38/day and a 3-day pass with 1.5GB of quota plus 100 minutes of calls and 100 SMS for RM88. For long-term usage, the 7-day pass costs RM138 and it comes with 3GB of data along with unlimited calls and SMS.
Celcom will inform you via SMS if you’ve utilised 100% usage of your roaming quota. If you’re visiting a country that isn’t covered by the “Roam like Home” feature, your speed will be throttled when your roaming data is depleted.
According to the FAQ, you can use up to a maximum of 100GB from your home data quota. It is also possible to use your combined weekday and weekend data quota if you have enabled Anyday GB for the plan.
Digi has announced a revision for its postpaid plans for 2020. Moving forward, the yellow telco offers all-day all-usage internet across its plans which provides subscribers full access to their allocated data at any time. That means no more annoying split between weekday and weekend data.
While the postpaid subscription remains unchanged, there are a couple of changes that you would need to know.
Digi Postpaid 80 is probably their best sweet-spot when it comes to their postpaid offering. Previously, for RM80/month you get 10GB for weekend data and 10GB for weekday data along with unlimited calls and 300 SMS. Now for the same subscription fee, you can get 30GB of base data (50% more) which you can use 7 days a week.
To make the deal sweeter, the Postpaid 80 plan comes with a Welcome Bonus of 10GB of data and a Loyalty Bonus where you get 40GB for the first two years. Take note that the Loyalty bonus isn’t a monthly perk and you’re getting 10GB every 6 months during your first 2 years of subscription.
For Digi Postpaid 120, the data quota has also increased from 40GB previously to 50GB. Like before, the plan doesn’t come with weekday/weekend quota split. The rest of the plans appear to remain unchanged except for the entry-level Jom Start.
At RM58/month, you can 10GB of all-day quota which is better than the previous 5GB weekday + 5GB weekend data split. The plan still comes with unlimited calls to all networks.
Despite being the cheapest plan, Digi is also rewarding its subscribers with a 20GB loyalty bonus. Take note that this is 20GB which will be distributed during the 2 year period. According to the fine print, you’ll receive 5GB every 6 months.
Digi Postpaid 80
If you look from the surface, it looks like the Postpaid 80 is getting lots of perks and bonuses compared to the previous iteration. But when you compare the old and new plans side by side, you’ll notice that it is missing the free 30GB of YouTube quota each month. Despite the data split for the base plan, you’re getting a total of 50GB of usable internet each month on the older version.
With the updated Postpaid 80 for 2020, you’re getting just 30GB each month plus a couple of free short term data during the first two years. Even if you calculate the total bonuses (10GB welcome + 40GB loyalty) and divide them across 24 months, you’re getting an average of 2.08GB extra each month.
If you’re an existing Digi user that spends a lot of data on YouTube, the older plan with 30GB YouTube data is actually more worth it. If you use more data for everything else, the new plan is a better all-rounder as you’re getting 50% extra data for the base plan which you can use at any day of the week.
Digi Postpaid 120
New Digi Postpaid 120
Old Digi Postpaid 120
For Digi Postpaid 120, it is a no brainer as the new plan gives you 10GB more data than before and the rest of the plan offering remains unchanged. You still get unlimited calls and 1,000 SMS each month which you can use on all networks.
Digi’s included Borderless Roaming plan which lets you roam in 10 countries is still retained. This lets you enjoy 5GB of data roaming and 60 minutes of voice calls each month.
Postpaid 160 and 190
New Digi Postpaid 160
Old Digi Postpaid 160
New Digi Postpaid 190
Old Digi Postpaid 190
For Digi Postpaid 160 and 190, it looks like nothing has changed. It still comes with 70GB and 100GB of data respectively with unlimited calls and 100 SMS. You also get borderless roaming for free. Strangely, Digi does not offer loyalty bonuses for the Postpaid 120, 160 and 190 plan.
Do note that the entitlements for the Digi postpaid plans may change if you opt for a device bundling especially on PhoneFreedom 365. Usually, on a phone contract, you can get an extra 50GB to 100GB of extra data each month depending on the device offers available.
According to Digi, all existing postpaid customers who are already on the selected plans will enjoy the upgraded internet quota and bonuses automatically in the next billing cycle. They added that Digi’s long tenure internet plans customers will also be upgraded in stages before the end of January 2020.
[ UPDATE 30/12/2019 12:00pm ] Digi has confirmed that its Loyalty Bonus for Postpaid 80 is given on a monthly basis and it is stackable. Those that sign up will get the following data allocation:
In summary, on Digi Postpaid 80 you’ll start with 40GB of data each month for RM80/month and you’ll get upgraded to 70GB/month after 2 years of subscription.
======
Digi has recently revamped its postpaid plans for 2020 which comes with all-day all-usage internet across the board. Its Postpaid 80 plan has the biggest revision and it was recently advertised for having 70GB of data each month. Can you really get 70GB a month or is this just another deceptive advertising? This is probably the most confusing plan we’ve seen in a while.
To recap, the new Postpaid 80 plan is now upgraded from 20GB (10GB weekday + 10GB weekend) to 30GB which you can use 24/7. In addition, you’ll get 40GB of loyalty bonus and 10GB of welcome bonus for new sign-ups.
According to Digi’s fine print and on their T&C page, the Loyalty Bonus offers “additional 10GB every 6 months” which is capped 4 times, up to 2 years tenure. From what we understand from that statement is that users will receive a one-time 10GB of data every 6 months up to a maximum of four times.
As shown above, the Loyalty Bonus is showing 40GB (10GB every 6 months – up to 2 years). In their FAQ, it states the following:
You will need to stay on the plan for 6 months to enjoy. The first Loyalty Bonus will be automatically unlocked once you reaches 7th month and subsequently the Loyalty Bonus will automatically unlocked on every 13th, 19th and 25th month. Additional Internet quota granted will be added on (stack up) on top of any existing internet quota. You will be notified whenever the Loyalty Bonus is granted.
When we reached out to Digi’s PR team, we are told that you’re actually getting the Loyalty Bonus on a monthly basis. So that means, from the 7th to 12th month, you’ll be getting an additional 10GB/month every month. And from the 13th to 18th month, you’ll get 10GB + 10GB, and you’ll continue to receive a bump of 10GB every 6 months with a maximum cap of 4 times.
As a result, you will get to enjoy a total of 70GB/month on your 25th month onwards. Apparently, the welcome bonus is also given out on a monthly basis and this means new Postpaid 80 customers will be getting 40GB each month during the first six months of their subscription.
To confirm if this is the same understanding on the ground, we’ve reached out Digi’s hotline at 016-221 1800. To our surprise, we got a very different answer. We are told that the Loyalty Bonus does not stack up onto another existing bonus. Instead of stacking an extra 10GB per month as explained previously, the customer service agent told us that you’ll be receiving just 10GB/month loyalty bonus for 24 months in total.
When we emailed them the Facebook ad, as shown above, we are told that this 70GB data claim is probably for their higher plan as you will get a maximum of 40GB/month on Postpaid 80. Here are the probable scenarios with Digi Postpaid 80 for a clearer understanding:
Scenario A is our original understanding based on their website which implies that the bonuses are given out on a one-off basis.
Scenario B is based on what was communicated directly to us. Digi says that they are giving the bonuses on a monthly basis and the loyalty bonus are stackable every 6 months.
Scenario C is based on information that we got from Digi’s careline which denies that you can get up to 70GB per month. This information was also confirmed with the agent’s supervisor.
We genuinely hope that Scenario B is the actual plan as it offers more data for consumers. In fact, if this is true, Postpaid 80 is probably the best postpaid option from Digi in the long run since you can get 70GB/month for only RM80 after 24 months. This is cheaper than Digi Postpaid 160 (RM160) that comes with 70GB.
[ UPDATE 30/12/2019 12:00pm ] Digi has confirmed that the data allocation on Postpaid 80 will be given based on Scenario B. Customers will get 70GB/month after two years of subscription.
Here’s the thing, Digi’s plans are unnecessary complicated and even their customer careline agents couldn’t give a consistent answer for its postpaid plans. We expect better communication from Digi and perhaps it isn’t a great idea for them to roll out new products right before the holiday season.
What Digi could do is to provide a clearer illustration of what customers are getting on a monthly basis. A simple chart can make a whole lot of difference in helping customers understand and make well-informed decisions. Instead of adding confusing bonuses, why not make it a permanent offering so that it is simpler to understand at a glance?
We’ve reached out to Digi on the matter and we will update once we have an official answer.
Apart from Postpaid 80, Digi has also revised its entry-level Postpaid 58 which now comes with welcome and loyalty bonus. By default, the plan offers unlimited calls and 10GB of all-day internet for RM58/month. However, with the additional bonuses, you’ll get three times the data after two years of tenure.
Previously, the plan comes with 5GB of all-day data and 5GB of weekend data along with unlimited calls. For 2020, Digi has revised its postpaid plans to offer all-day data and this means you’ll get 10GB per month that can be used 24/7.
For new customers, you’ll get a welcome bonus of 5GB per month for the first six month. On top of that, there’s a loyalty bonus where Digi will add an extra 5GB of data per month every 6 months (up to a maximum of 2 years). This means you’ll get the following data allocation:
Unlike Digi’s more expensive plans, you don’t get free 5GB free-roaming, 60 minutes of roaming calls and 60 mins of IDD calls to 10 countries. If you need it, it will cost you RM35/month.
According to the FAQ, the Loyalty Bonus is given for a lifetime as long as you stay on the same plan or upgrade to a higher option. The extra quota will be forfeited if you switch to a non-eligible plan. In a way, this is a practical plan for casual users that require 15GB/month and you will gain more quota as you stay longer with Digi.
If you need more data, there’s the Postpaid 80 plan which comes with 30GB of all-day data. There’s a 10GB/month Welcome bonus for the first 6 months and you can get up to 40GB/month with the Loyalty bonus. After two years, you’ll get a total of 70GB a month on the same plan.
